I've been to Seddon Deadly Sins years ago and remembered that they had awesome Spanish eggs. Decided to bring my wife and in laws for brunch today before we go shopping and the experience was a bit of a mixed bag.
I'll start with the good points.
We were seated in the courtyard when we arrived and it was extremely cold because one of the heaters wasn't working. My in laws were freezing and requested that if seats became available indoors that we be moved inside. Within minutes, a waitress came by and told us we could move inside and was very attentive making sure that our orders were directed to our changed table. Great service and friendly staff.
Now the not so great points.
Food took a long time to come. Granted it was a busy Saturday lunch service but it was definitely longer than usual.
My wife ordered the chilli corn loaf and it was great. Huge portions, flavoursome baked beans and crispy bacon.
My father in law and I ordered the florentine eggs and was a little disappointed by it. It came with two poached eggs and only one small piece of toast. The eggs were poached beautifully, they were generous with the hollandaise sauce but there was not enough toast to wipe up all the delicious sauce and egg yolk with. If the dish came with two pieces of toast, it would have been perfect. And we thought $15.50 for the dish was a little on the expensive side.
My mother in law tried the herbed polenta and loved everything but the polenta. It was quite mushy so it in her words, she's had better polenta.
Seddon Deadly Sins could have been great but maybe it's the day that I went or it's me being harsh but tweaking a few things would have this a highly recommend...
Read moreOver the past year I’ve gone to Seddon Deadly Sins many times for coffee, sometimes a treat and occasionally a meal.
They have takeaway and seating options inside the building, in a courtyard (service dogs only), and doggie-friendly tables along footpaths next to two adjacent walls of the building. They also offer very generous puppacinos with dog treats added. My dog has a fragile tummy so I ask for just a small portion of milk with no extras, which she DEVOURS.
The service is always excellent and friendly. We’ve been often enough that a few staff make a point of mentioning what dairy free treats (slices, brownies, double choc lamingtons) are on offer when I really only intended to have a coffee. I confess I often succumb to temptation.
I love the quirky touches, like their menus are in Little Golden Book covers with the original pages removed, replaced by the current menu.
They have an “all day breakfast” and “all day lunch” but their range isn’t huge: the food reflects an upmarket cafe with a hipsterish vibe, not a restaurant with a massive kitchen. They also offer alcohol and nonalcoholic drinks and cocktails. I’m there for the coffee so I can’t comment on other offerings. But I have tried a few of their meals, which have never disappointed. Like the pulled lamb toastie with salad, which I enjoyed last time. Hubby had scrambled eggs and bacon, and ate it with relish. (The attitude not...
Read moreI’m giving 5 stars because I don’t believe in harming a businesses reputation through negative reviews. But I will say this… the owner of the cafe blamed me for my chai latte not steeping/brewing properly and not being hot enough… this was really unprofessional and awkward.
A chai arrived at my table while I was outside for about a minute… so technically if there was any brewing that needed to be done… it would have been done… however the chai was not only bland and tasted just like milk, It was lukewarm… which means there’s no brewing going on in that lukewarm milk… I don’t like complaining at all but I thought I’d politely and quietly tell the lovely girl who was serving us, that unfortunately the chai was basically just bland lukewarm milk and I don’t want to be annoying but just thought of it as some feedback, wasn’t necessarily asking for a new chai. However, the owner overheard and came up to me and explained that its tea leaves and the reason it was bland was because I am supposed to let it brew and I didn’t… whilst not even mentioning the fact that the milk was not hot at all… and then picked up the chai and said he’ll make me another one regardless and walked off…. Pretty poor form to blame the customer for the chai being cold and un-brewed. I immediately wanted to leave but I was with the family so I was a good sport about it.
Lovely cafe, nice food, all the other staff...
