I spotted the cafe as I drove past on my way to Bundoora and decided to visit for lunch on my way back home. Was seated at a comfortable table and provided with water , menu and coffee order taken. Immediately I was taken by the space , the comfortable and considered decor , music playing was not too loud. Lots of differently sized tables and zones in the cafe to suit groups and smaller parties comfortably . Ordered a fresh juice and a big breakfast . Noticed just one young lady behind the bar calmly and efficiently doling out all the beverages - props to you :) my juice was delicious, just the right amount of ginger too. Food was so lovely , good portions, good flavours/ properly seasoned . Service was attentive enough , was provided everything needed and cleared of my plate although wasn’t asked if I’d like something else but staff constantly present around the floor which is rare in other cafes I’ve frequented . Lovely display of delicious looking cakes and sandwiches in the cabinet . Toilets were clean, well kept and spacious facilities. Only downside is that I didn’t visit years gone by while Jobe Watson was behind the coffee machine … hahaha. Will be my Sunday regular spot when I go to church and to bring friends during the week!

Having grown up locally it’s awesome to see a modern style cafe establish itself in the burbs. The Scandi like interior resembles that of any trending cafe in the inner it maintains this sleek vibe while also being family friendly with ample room to accomodate the many prams of brunching mums. Food wise I ordered the coconut and chia pudding with gluten free granola and summer berries. This was a delightfully light option that was both tasty and healthy. I washed it down with a green smoothie (knowing I was going to be eating a dirty burger for dinner). A great summery and refreshing choice. Other dishes at the table were the nourish bowl with pulled chicken, the southern fried chicken burger and the eggs your way which was customised with mushrooms and grilled haloumi. The cold drip was also highly praised by the serious coffee drinkers among us. I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the food and can easily see how this became the stand out option for those in the area, but it is also well worth checking out as a destination in itself

Bright and open! This cafe is a dream come true for those who love the open space and natural light! A beautiful bright green and white cafe, open kitchen and floor to ceiling windows, it’s a beautiful place for a sunny day! The chatter, music and kitchen bell ringing brought life into the place, customer service with a smile, it’s a place that had high expectations and did not disappoint! The food was amazing, presented beautifully and tasted amazing! Getting the peri peri eggs, I had high hopes for them! Drying for a good scrambled egg! The flavour within this simple dish was Devine! A cream to which i assume cheese dolloped on top had the perfect texture to cut through the chilli eggs, refreshing and a palette cleanse! Overall, I’d come back any day the sun is out!

Nice enough place for a meal, staff were polite, then I was asked to leave. I’m interested to hear your response but I also have realistic expectations based on my experience.

My partner was having a sit down meal just after opening, while I waited for a script at the pharmacy around the corner. We had previously ordered a coffee from another cafe, as Mabel Jones was closed at that time.

After my errand I went to Mabel Jones with my almost finished coffee in hand and stood at the end of the long empty table while my partner finished her breakfast. The waitress approached asking me to finish my coffee outside as I had brought it from outside their cafe, claiming it was for “health and safety” reasons. Happy to stand corrected but as far as I’m aware, taking a coffee into an establishment doesn’t breach health and safety regulation and I don’t think it’s appropriate to say so if it’s not the case. If I was taking up a seat for a paying customer, or brought in my own meal, I would understand. Reasonability test works well here. Pretty rubbish experience.

For the record, my partner said that while the food looked great, it was okay and wouldn’t get it again. Some beetroot and avo...
