Ola readers. It was a pleasant Tuesday night around 9.30 or so. Clarendon street was a little quiter than usual and my friend Andrea and I had been wandering for quite a while as a lot of restaurants had closed for the night. I felt like a cheeky Nandos but they said their kitchen was closed. Shame. We crossed the road to head back to the car and had almost lost hope- our stomachs churning, hangriness elevating by the second and bodies hurting from our earlier bouldering session. 'Why is nothing open?' I yelled in disbelief. 'Should we just get some tuna and rice from Woolworths?' Suggested Andrea. 'I'm sure we'll find something' I replied. Reassuring myself more so than disagreeing with her idea. Suddenly I saw a light, my nose hairs tingled at the scent of salsa spice. It looked like it was closing up in a matter of minutes, but we pushed the door - to the sweet sound of door chimes- and were welcomed by my amigo who greeted us with a big Mexican smile. Mad Mex was there for us 'What can I get for chu today?' A chicken burrito and some nachos later I can tell you this. Our food babies were purring with delight and our night became just that little bit...
Read more1-star customer service and 2-star food! I have visited this South Melbourne outlet twice and faced the same issues. Even after a disappointing experience during my first visit, I still decided to give it one more go! My bad, right? I ordered the vegan nachos and vegan burrito. The person who was serving me was not at all friendly, rude to answer questions and arrogant to didn't even realise I was a first-time customer. The least he could do is help me choose whatever would taste best but he gave cold responses to all my queries. I do not remember his name but he was a bearded guy with glasses and had a metallic ring bracelet on his wrist. Nachos were dry and tasted bland and the burrito was spicy but didn't even taste as good as I was anticipating. After the service that I had received from the staff, I didn't even bother to share my concern with that staff or another guy who seemed like the manager. I can say for sure they definitely weren't in their best moods. I don't recommend this outlet to anyone unless they are okay with subpar customer service and average...
Read moreLong time customer. Was sad when my local Prahran store closed so have been making the journey to South Melbourne after eating there 2 dozen times. It's always cold in there making eating in uninviting. The staff show no love or care for what they're making, I can assure you they would put more care into something they'd made for themselves. I always order tacos and the staff never feel the need to push the fillings to the edges for full flavour and for getting my 15 dollars worth. My last visit I asked for onions jalapenos and lettuce. I was giving 3 huge dumps of onions, 4 shreds of lettuce and no jalalepenos. When i asked if they could be made a little nicer the staff member rolled their eyes and said they were good enough I could pay or leave. Stunned by the sudden attitude at a simple request I paid and said my farewells. Sadly though for the last time. Mad mex will always be my favourite local tex mex but I can't waste my money anymore on such a negative experiences at your South Melbourne location.
Hoping you guys make a come back ! Local tex mex...
