Tried the red velvet cake today but unfortunately this one didn’t taste as good as it looked. Should have gone for the heavenly peanut butter cheesecake
Latest Picked up the mars bar to take home after dinner nearby. Staff advised to warm it up in the microwave and I was not disappointed by it’s melty gooey deliciousness
Recent Opening hours may have shortened to 11pm, the cupcakes, macarons and tarts may be gone but the cake selection is as plentiful as ever and there’s even been a bit of an interior refurb. I went for the Nutella cheesecake despite being white heavily tempted by the chocolate Mars Bar. There are so many varieties I’m inclined to try one every day until I’ve discovered my favourite. Staff are lovely too
Update A colleague brought an orange and lemon cake in for her birthday today which I absolutely loved. Stupid me somehow only took a photo of the box and not the cake which is really disappointing as it looked phenomenal. More importantly it tasted utterly delicious and being fruit based was not overly sweet. Thoroughly recommend
Original review I LOVE THIS PLACE. Every type of delicious cake imaginable, macarons, slices absolutely all bases of yumminess covered. Muffin? Doughnut? Freakshake? Cupcake? BAKLAVA? You name it they've got it and it's all tasty AF. The windows are so packed with vibrant delights they will make your mouth water.
Choosing between the 20 plus cakes on display is always a challenge so best to take a friend or two so you can share a variety of options. An institution that makes all its own cakes (when was the last time you went somewhere that makes all its own cakes?!?!) and I have never had a bad experience in all my many post dinner visits.
The toffee popcorn cheesecake is 🙌🏼 and best of all they are opened until midnight every day of the week so can satisfy your sweet cravings...
Read moreI’ve been a regular at the Papershop Deli for a few years I’ve always enjoyed it, the staff are friendly and know how to make good relationships with the customers A few weeks ago I noticed that they had hired a new wait staff member, unfortunately a woman with an authoritarian personality who tried to train you in the correct way to place an order, who was aggressively efficient and walked around as if she were a little Hitler She removed all pleasure from the experience, and one had the feeling of being a piece of equipment in a profit making factory I was surprised and wondered if this was the beginning of the end for my relationship with this cafe Indeed it was This morning I was served by the second authoritarian personality now on staff, who became really angry when I asked her politely not to call me “ love”, and thereafter insisted that I do things in the ordering process her way For example I like to see the amount I’m paying when tapping the card and ask always for the device to be turned around. No one has ever objected to this until today Her attitude would have been more suited to someone working in a gaol, not a place of hospitality I decided not to stay and asked for my money back The manager for the day tried to calm the situation, upset because she knew me as a regular, but I do not go into places that are supposed to be pleasurable in order to be treated like a deviant or naughty or similar by the wait staff, no matter how efficient they may claim to be Whoever is doing the hiring has a blind spot about authoritarian personalities who behave like robotic machines and expect customers to do the same Totally...

The @theoldpapershopdeli was one of mine from many, many moons ago when I worked locally. Ah, the life of a single woman in the 80’s! When John Farnham was belting out Your The Voice, the Australian Women’s 8 had an impressive first place and gold medal win at the Edinburgh Commonwealth Games and Melbourne came to terms with domestic terrorism with the Russell Street Bombing which had a pivotal change on the psyche of everyone.
But I digress. Since that time, there has been a change of owners, a change of decor and a change of menus - but what hasn’t changed is the wholesome food and friendly service. Yes, there was no smashed avo back then, but moving with the times keeps you relevant and interesting.
This morning we had #eggsbenedict and a #shakshukaeggs presented with the class and style of 40 years ago.
The ambience along with the subtle background music made for an enjoyable brunch with a touch of nostalgia.
Thank you to all at #theoldpapershopdeli We will return for another dose of memory lane stories and anecdotes.
Notes: wheelchair accessible. Good parking but with time limits. High chairs available. Dietaries catered for.
