Mama Rae's — Restaurant in Melbourne

I really wanted to love this place but it just disappointed me sadly. We ordered the J.R.TEXAN and LOADED TO THE MAX FRIES. The burger patties are like those weird Woolies pre made ones where the meat is kind of rubbery “see photo” and there was basically no bbq sauce, it was such a sad moment biting into it because it was so underwhelming.

The fries were a great portion size but it was basically just deep fried chips with a tiny bit of sauce on top and a teaspoon of sour cream so I wouldn’t call them loaded to the max. We also waited 25 minutes in an empty store for these two items and they weren’t that hot when we tucked in. The vibe is pretty cool and the music is great as was the server. Just really sad that it’s such a let down.

I ordered 3 chicken thighs and 2 drumsticks with waffle fries. I’ve lived in Australia for almost 6 years, and finally I’ve come across a place that knows how to make actual fried chicken! The picture doesn’t do it justice! Next time I’ll get all thighs because they were next level. The burger sauce and mama Rae’s sauce were great. They gave me the bottom of the bag for waffle fries but I’ll give em a pass on that because the chicken was that good. As a neighbor I really wanted to love this place, but it was just a huge disappointment. I ordered my burger without pickles tonight, and of course, it came with pickles—not that it even matters at this point. The flavor was awful, the patty felt like it wasn’t even properly cooked, and the cheese tasted like it was straight out of a supermarket packet. Absolutely tragic. As a local, I was hoping this would become a go-to spot, but after this experience, I doubt I’ll be back. And absolutely not...
