I never enter a place without ordering something. Previously we entered the bistro and were told they didn’t do coffees. We didn’t intend to order just coffee, but people we were with were keen on coffee. We found a pizzeria down the road and stayed there. We returned couple of hours later to attend a wedding reception at the George and I wanted to order a glass of wine while I waited, and for others in my company. But before I uttered a word I was told to get out. The place was full of young people who were at least tolerated but us oldies were kicked out. It is possible I didn’t pay enough attention to the rules of the place, maybe it indeed didn’t serve coffee, and they had every right not to serve who they don’t want to. I also understand that with the wedding venue upstairs and strict entrance rule, forcing people to wait on the stairs for doors to open, results in people blocking the entrance to the bistro, and “strays” to come in. Especially when they were told there is a nice bistro, where you can order coffee and some food to fill a gap of two hours while waiting for the reception to start. I have every right, however, to be offended that after taking one look at me and people I was with we were refused service twice in the span of two hours, and precisely on how we were dismissed and spoken to. I have probably been careless and didn’t pay attention to how they conduct their business, didn’t book the table, and to save myself and the bistro awkwardness and embarrassment I should have probably sent a photo, and references. As I always take responsibility for my actions and behavior I sincerely regret entering your bistro. Ps it truly is awful how you treated me and continue to do so with your response. In your mind that is justifiable and ok, but it is not. You don’t know me and gave me a 0 star at the first site. You got...

Read moreBistro Voliere is one of those places that leaves a lasting impression. The first thing you notice is how welcoming the staff are. They treat you with such warmth and attention that it feels more like visiting friends than dining at a restaurant. That genuine hospitality sets the tone for the whole experience.
The setting itself is beautiful. There is a relaxed European charm to the space, with an atmosphere that feels both stylish and comfortable. Whether you are dropping in for a casual meal or planning a more special night out, the vibe fits perfectly. It is easy to settle in, enjoy the surroundings, and lose track of time.
The menu is excellent and shows real care in both quality and presentation. Every dish we have tried has been fresh, flavourful, and thoughtfully put together. The wine list deserves praise too, with plenty of options that complement the food without feeling overwhelming. It is clear that the choices have been curated with a lot of consideration.
What makes Bistro Voliere even more special is knowing it is connected to Lucien Bar just down the road. Both venues share the same commitment to great service and quality, but Bistro Voliere has its own identity, leaning a little more towards the dining experience. It is a perfect balance to its sister venue.
Overall, Bistro Voliere is a standout in St Kilda. Great staff, wonderful food and wine, and a setting that makes you want to return...
