I do kind of get why Marko's Schnitzel is highly regarded within the foodie community. They do a very flavourful schnitzel roll/pita.
When you get what I got, a pita wrap with their onion schnitzel, hummus, salsa, chilli, corn, tomato salad, jalapeños, cheese, pickles and olives, it's like this heavenly mix of salty sweet flavours that dance in your mouth, with a crisp onion schnitzel straight out of the fryer and a subtle onion taste that enhances the overall flavour.
It's quite nice. Not sure if it's $19 nice, though.
$19 is quite steep in my view for many places. I get that prices are going up across the board, but sadly, my pay is not going up with it. That's why in most of my reviews I only give out four stars (at most) because, to me, dollar-to-performance is extremely important.
The thing is, there are a couple of things to pick on that warrant a four-star review in my eyes.
The portions aren't the biggest, whether you get the roll or the pita. It's relatively filling. It filled me up for a little while, but I was definitely hungry again by dinner.
The pita was OK. It struggled to handle the filling inside. Texture-wise, there was a little bit of resistance in each chew. Not inedible like cardboard, but it almost tasted a tiny bit stale? Not sure if it was the pita, or if it had just been sitting there for a little while?
That being said, the filling steals the show. Whatever you get, you're bound to have an amazing culinary experience.
It's like a gourmet version of Subway. You get to choose what you want or don’t want. And the amount of customisation is endless. All fresh, high-quality ingredients.
Very nice place. Personally speaking, I wouldn't go there all the time due to the price.
But it's a solid choice for top-quality schnitzel sandwiches. Highly...
Read moreHow do I describe Marko's? If the chicken schnitzel Gods came down from the sky and touched one place aiming to make it ooze with greatness, then this is the place. Marko's offers a variety of chicken schnitz flavours in either a 6 or 12 inch sub, or a pita. There are a vast variety of salads to add to your roll/pita. The schnitzels are prepared daily and cooked freshly constantly. This place is open for breakfast and lunch, I think only during the week. It is always a queue out the door, because they are that good. A thinner schnitzel, but absolutely delicious. I don't live near here, but find myself coming back once every couple of months for lunch. The opening hours are likely due to servicing the large, local manufacturing/Industrial community. I'm salivating thinking about it. Don't be fooled by the queues, they move reasonably quick and the odd extra wait is absolutely worth it. Minimal seating out front, take your lunch and head to the beach (short drive down Chesterville Road/Charman Road) at Beaumaris/Mentone where you'll find some picnic tables. I've never eaten breakfast here but I'm willing to wager it...

Marko’s Schnitzel is the food mecca of Cheltenham, dare I say all of Melbourne.
Walking in is like stepping into a Seinfeld episode. Think Soup Nazi meets Schnitzel Sensei. For peak experience, join the inner sanctum known as the Snitz Club and roll in around 11:30am to avoid the high-vis tradie stampede.

If the special sauce is not your vibe please let our boy down gently with a polite slow head shake but keep the humus, everyone loves humus.
