Matsuya Japanese Restaurant — Restaurant in Melbourne

I came here to have dinner with the family about a week ago and was very disappointed with the overall service and lack of warmth from Japanese staff. I have been here many times & also have had takeaway as well over thr years but will not be coming back. The restaurant was virtually empty but we just ended waiting at the door whilst everyone looked at us (in the past they would greet you from afar in Japanese). We are people of colour & not their usual clientele so perhaps they were uncomfortable?My wife eventually walked up to the staff member as if begging to be given a table in a restaurant that was virtually empty. They forgot my wife's order so I had to get up to request it etc. Most restaurants/waitresses will ask if you have received everything but not Matsuya. Japanese in name only but not in culture &...

Booked for a family dinner in the middle of June and honestly it was very underwhelming. The waitresses were nice but it was clear from the beginning that there was a lack of communication between the manager and the rest of the kitchen staff.

Our meals were all given to us at different times. The cooks seemed to be unable to recall what we ordered even after many kind reminders to the waitresses.

After waiting an hour, we still did not get one main meal we ordered. It was very disappointing when I spoke to the manager as all he said was that 'this happens a lot' and repeatedly said 'sorry'. We only got an apology after we approached him after an hour of waiting.

I don't recommend going to this...

Even though the place was extremely busy, the staff speedily found us a table. The servers were prompt but the room seemed like it could do with a good scrub and a freshen up. The food was terrible. My partner had the Bento box which looked like it had come out of a vending machine, bland with no effort in presentation. I had the beef noodles which tasted like they had been cooked in vinegar, so I didn't eat them, I just took them home. Actually, a lot of people seemed to take their food home. The two ladies next to us said they were regulars, but wouldn't be going back because the food was bland (they were taking their food home too), the new management/owners were not living up to the previous owners...
