Over priced and over hyped.
First visit there: we paid through the nose over $60 for two meals and a coffee. The food was boring and honestly nothing special. Nothing worth the price point and the menu was lacking in ur staple cafe breakfast items. We finished our meals and decided this is not the place we will dine at again.
Second visit: we were walking the dogs and decided to stop by and grab a coffee to go.
They charged us $6 for a hot chocolate! I questioned them on how much they charged and they stated it’s because all hot chocolates must be served as a “large” but large coffees(which were the size of regular coffee cups at other cafes) are $4.60 or something? The staff were being awkward and the conversation was uncomfortable because even they knew it was just ludicrous.
In total I paid $10.10 for a regular (small) cappuccino and a “large” (regular) hot chocolate.
The hot chocolate tasted no different to the $1 at 7-11.
Very very disappointed and we left feeling completely ripped off. The milk in the cappuccino and hot chocolate were boiling hot and the coffee was burnt.
I should have walked back to the cafe and asked for a refund.
We will not be returning and do not recommend this place.
There are plenty of friendly, welcoming and fairly priced cafes with great menus a few hundred meters away on...
Read moreI am a local, and was a little sceptical about this little Café, but today as I was walking to the Café, I saw a Gentleman taking care of the table and chairs on the footpath,(who I then found out was the manager. I then walked in and although the place was jam packed with customers sitting and enjoying themselves, I was instantly greeted at the door and asked if I wanted to eat in or takeaway. When I said that I was a neighbour and asked to speak to the manager, she guided me back outside to the gentleman who was taking care of the seating outside. I was very impressed with what I had seen so far and even more impressed when my conversation with him.
The Café is NEVER empty even during the day on a weekday, and that's saying something. I felt very welcomed from the instant I walked in to the enlightening conversation I had with the Manager By the way, the food looked and smelt...
Read moreTime to revisit this review from some time back. It remains a great place for brunch. Upon reflection it's part of a now iconic and unique (though being exported) Australian breakfast cuisine (and coffee) culture. Arguably Melbourne does it best for many reasons, and Mister Hoffman is, I think, a great example. It, and others like it (in this part of Melbourne, plenty) basically serves a dedicated local community and almost not too many beyond, but its customer base is loyal. Downsides - it's small. On a cold rainy day you're likely to end up outside. You can't book. On those same cold days the door's always open for the constant stream of take away coffee customers. Kind of annoying at times to feel like you're eating in the coffee queue. That aside, everything food is quality. Fresh, creative, vibrant and tasty. Lots of standards with a twist. Well worth a visit if you can find a...
