Overall alright. Pricey menu with too many items which results in a failure of the cafe to produce a few truly delicious items. The high quantity of menu items has resulted in sandwiches being greasy and items like pasta or pancakes to taste mediocre. Although there is some creativity when it comes to the creation of the menu, this is limited and an attempt is made to salvage the meal by throwing some flowers or other pretty things on top to make it more #instagrammable. Additionally, I have noticed that when I go there with one or two friends (all of us are young and not adults) we do not get served and it takes the serves twice as long to arrive and take our orders. I have witnessed this multiple times with large groups entering after us and not only getting served first but also getting their food delivered before anyone has even approached our table and given us a glass of water. The "Please Wait to be seated policy" of the cafe is a failure as this would require there to be someone at the entrance, waiting to seat the guests. This has the effect that patrons that are respectful enough to wait get served after those that simply rush in and take a table. This policy, in my opinion, creates a delusional image of a high end cafe, in a lackluster attempt to justify the high prices and view of the sea. Yet they don't provide cutlery to the guest, putting out a bucket of forks, knives and napkins for the guest to serve themselves, defeating the purpose of the seating policy. Lastly, I have had the unfortunate event to be served a dirty glass, with a big pink lipstick smear over 1/4 of the glass edge. Had the waiter taken a single look at the glass before dumping them onto our table and then continuing to hit on her coworker, this wouldn't have happened.
In conclusion, whilst the cafe is surely a nice spot for people to get a quick coffee, I am not convinced with either the service...
Read moreNestled in a location so idyllic it practically sparkles with inherited fortunes, North Point cafe offers a front-row seat to the delightful chaos of a top-tier kids' pirate ship themed playground and a beach likely frequented by Labradoodles with better wardrobes you can imagine. This, in the heart of Brighton, where the air smells faintly of sea salt and venture capital.
North Point is popular especially weekends so go with the expectation that you’ll be challenged to find a car park nearby. But once you arrive, let it be known these guys excel at coffee and good brunch including items like Bircher muesli, pancakes, zucchini fritters and a staple favourite, smashed avocado with poached eggs (at market prices).
Chilli scrambled eggs is a personal favourite that’s served with cherry tomatoes, capsicum and a decent amount of chilli to fire sufficient warning shots but not offensive.
The chilli eggs arrive perched precariously atop two slabs of toasted sourdough, the kind of artisanal bread that clearly went to finishing school for being aggressively difficult to cut. It was a culinary standoff: me versus the unyielding crust. My attempts with the knife and fork resembled a tiny, polite demolition derby, threatening to launch shrapnel across the neighboring tables. Eventually, dignity lost out to hunger, and I embraced my inner caveperson, tearing into it with gusto. The sourdough may have won the battle, but I was determined to win the war (against my stomach rumbling).
My next visit is already planned, and it revolves entirely around that magnificent seriously good looking prawn and scallop...
Read moreWalked in for 2 on a cold and rainy winter Saturday around 12:30ish. It was relatively busy but still heaps of tables available. We were seated as soon as we walked in.
Overall vibe is a clean, hipster, very “Melbourne” cafe.
We ordered the steak sandwich, and the pumpkin and beetroot salad with chicken added. We also ordered drinks - Yuzu Soda and a Mango smoothie.
My friend rated her steak sandwich a 7/10. She felt the turkish bread wasn’t toasted enough, and one of her steak pieces was cooked way too rare. The rest was okay though. She said in general everything was good.
My salad was probably a 6/10 - everything was fine - fresh enough. Lots of beetroot pieces, generous cuts of cheese, corn, and tomatoes; not enough pumpkin. Flavours - it’s bland until you find the beetroot hummus - this made the dish really good. Chicken was okay - not a lot of seasoning on the chicken on its own.
Smoothie was really flavourful and fresh. It has chia seeds in it so that added to the texture of it. The yuzu soda was from a can - nice enough. Not quite a lemonade, but more a carbonated water that’s flavoured.
Total we paid $88 with card and weekend surcharge. Salad was $34 with chicken, the sandwich was $28.
It was an okay...
