One of the best dog friendly beaches I have encountered. There is ample room to run around, poo bags are almost always available (check the middle gate if the more popular north and south entries are empty), the fences and gates are always secure and the people are relaxed and approachable.
At low tide there is plenty of shallow water stretching out to sand banks for the little dogs, and for the big guys the far end drops off quite quickly. I swim with mine and it easily goes over my head.
Never had an issue with dog owners, most are very sensible and control their dogs and on the odd occasion there is some aggression between dogs, people, even strangers if the owners are further away, jump in and break things up before there is any real trouble.
It can get busy on weekends and parking is only in local streets, so weekday afternoons are best for a balance of plenty of dogs, but still somewhere to...
Read moreIt's beautiful here and so much space. Great for locals. I'll definitely go again but...the park can get very busy... difficult to find parking (I'm not a local) and not close by so you have to be prepared to walk and carry light belongings. There doesn't seem to be a source of fresh water nearby so dog will be smelly unless you carry water/bucket in the car for clean up. Some park users don't pick up rubbish or dog poo. It is a huge space so if you have a very young or untrained dog it is too risky to take their lead off. Multiple entry sites all have bins and poop bags. Great if you arrive really early before the crowds. On my next visit I did find a great water fountain for people and pets...follow the path towards the Yacht Club for toilets and...
Read moreYes, it's an off-leash dog beach, but beware that although it is listed as fully fenced - that is simply not true. The fences average at just above adult knee-height, are mostly broken down and some places only about 30 cm high due to sand build-up. The fences go along the footpath but not across the beach, so there is nothing to stop your dog going all the way to St. Kilda. At the southern end there is a gently sloping rick /boulder wall that starts at the sand and slopes gently up to the footpath, so definitely NOT fenced. If you have a highly energetic bird dog, new rescue or young dog with limited recall - use this beach with care. It is just a normal off-leash beach for old dogs, overweight dogs or...
