I started writing this venue for my directory and I stopped immediately. This is one place I knew I had to check out myself and we’re glad we did. Kris and Kim have created a perfect location for family dining and it’s a venue that is one of our new favourite places to visit. They tick all the boxes for us and we know it’s a place you too will love.
We headed in for dinner at 5pm and were immediately welcomed. Both kids were acknowledged and welcomed too. My son was provided a special cup with straw (and ice) and it made his day! The one thing we noticed immediately, was the open view kitchen with bar seating across the front of it. What a view! The decor of the venue looks fantastic and is really inviting.
While I’m not vegan, I’m a lover of places that have a variety of vegan food on the menu. It makes my life easier when dealing with dairy intolerance and knowing that the end product will taste fantastic! I used to be vegetarian for 10 years, so I’ve had my fair share of vegan food too. The kitchen will happily accommodate dietary requirements and most dishes can also be made vegetarian or vegan. This made ordering Tapas to share between us really easy!
Their Fiesta Feast is a great way to sample the menu and we ordered most dishes from it. We ordered their taco of the day (lamb), guacamole and corn chips, empanadas (pumpkin and ricotta), fajita chicken skewers, nacho cheese rice balls and sour cream dusted chunky chips with salsa. From the main menu we ordered saucey wagyu meatballs with salted ricotta and southern fried chicken nibblers with spiked crema. We did alter a couple dishes to be dairy free for my daughter. They also have vegan cheese on offer too.
My husband and son took a wander to overlook the action in the kitchen. Kim warmly welcomed this and started showing Teddy how to make empanadas. He absolutely loved this! What an amazing and unique thing to offer, to encourage a positive relationship with food, by allowing kids to watch food being prepared.
Everything arrived promptly and beautifully presented. The food was delicious. I can’t recommend a particular dish, because everything we tried was fantastic. The kids enjoyed sampling a little bit of everything. I do love their kid’s menu which is perfect if you decide to order large plates for yourself, instead of tapas to share. We just love that they have roast chicken with chips or salad! What a welcomed change to a kid’s menu.
We really enjoyed all the food and the service was attentive and friendly. Staff made an effort to encourage us to order more food before a large table’s order was taken. They’re very much in tune with the needs of young children and loved engaging with them.
We kept ordering as we went along, so we didn’t have an opportunity to have dessert! We will definitely return to try more of the food and even...
Read moreI live very close and used to visit when it was originally opened and fitted out as a previous cafe that didn't work out. It's hard to see from the street, there's a ridiculous Telstra phone box blocking the view that should be ripped out as no human has used it in probably 10 years, and if you're driving past especially early in the day when it's on the shady side of New Street you will miss it as it's set back quite a ways from the street and is dark concrete structure.
That having been said, missing it would be YOUR mistake as the people who took over the site and opened as LADY GREEN have done an EPIC job rebranding it and putting in a fantastic 'California-style' menu that is simple, and elegant, and priced right and BRILLIANT.
I've eaten there several times besides the routine coffee and muffin breakky and the meals are tops. The service is great and it's such a refreshing departure from a lot of cafe fare. The outside has large fixed concrete tables (for small or medium groups) and two tops and when the sun is out in the late afternoon it's gorgeous and lively and there's a happy hour and super selection of small tapas, etc. The burrito bowl with pulled jerk pork or jerk pork tacos are amazeballs. The toasties are too, and the sticky date slice is epic and different.
The lady behind this is tireless and has weathered a very very challenging time building it up and now it's really going and I hope anyone will try this place and support it as the neighbourhood on New Street needed a new addition. The server (Bryce) we had the last two times was brilliant, too.
It's worth the trouble to have a look, as you'll want to come back, and there's plenty of parking on New Street and Martin Street most of the time, also.
FURTHER UPDATE: The Melbourne lockdown is finally ending and a friend and I enjoyed an epic lunch there today with a couple fantastic new menu additions (karage fried chicken green curry to name one) and everything is even better with a wide range of desserts avail on the bar. ...
Read moreTapas, tacos and Happy Hour! What an awesome way to reel in the weekend! Last Friday I had the pleasure of dining at Ladygreen where I returned to try their evening menu! The atmosphere was PUMPING with a mixture of families, friends and couples all there to soak up the Cali-Mex inspired restaurant. It was so wonderful to be greeted by dynamic duo Kris & Kim who welcomed my partner and I with the most warming hospitality. This was felt throughout the night as the Ladygreen team all paid great attention to us while we dined.
Between us we had Prosecco, Beer and a beautifully unique Ginger Cider which were all of fantastic quality.
We also shared a range of Tapas including Olives, Chicken Bites, Empanadas, Meatballs, Chips with Truffle, Gaucamole and Corn Chips & Tacos. The menu at Ladygreen is packed full of Cali-Mex inspired dishes, which come in varying serving sizes, but we were keen to order lots to try asany dishes as we could! Each dish was presented beautifully with a homemade appeal.
I particularly enjoyed the gaucamole which was of the ideal colour and texture alongside the authentic corn chips. The handmade style of the empanadas was comforting and remnant of my time in South America. And my partner can be quoted by saying "these are the best empanadas I've ever had" which speaks for itself!
The chicken bites were crispy and salty on the outside with a succulent filling. The meatballs were perfectly cooked and sitting in a beautiful tomato and cheese based sauce which I found delicious! And I got my vegetable fix with the fresh salad bursting from my taco!
Another fantastic visit to this awesome Brighton...
