Let me just start by saying this: if you’re even remotely considering booking a bottomless brunch in Melbourne for a large group — stop scrolling, stop Googling, stop asking your group chat for suggestions — Sushi Baby in Brighton is not just your best option, it’s your only real option. Everything else pales in comparison. This isn’t just a meal. It’s a full-blown sensory event, an orchestrated afternoon of delicious chaos, and a reminder that sometimes the stars do align — in this case, over soy sauce, sake, and some of the best damn Japanese fusion food you’ve ever inhaled in 90 minutes.
We came in as a party of 22 for a birthday, and trust me, you don’t wrangle 22 people into anything without a few hiccups. But the moment we stepped into Sushi Baby, it felt like the universe shifted. The energy? Immaculate. The staff? Unflappable. The vibes? High. We had a long table decked out for a feast, cocktails landing on the table within minutes of sitting down, and trays of sushi so beautiful they looked like edible art.
And that’s the thing — bottomless brunches in Melbourne often fall into two categories: watered-down drinks and forgettable food, or decent food with service that moves like it’s stuck in dial-up. Sushi Baby is neither. It’s got that rare mix of premium food, free-flowing drinks, killer music, and staff who somehow manage to keep it all running like clockwork — even when 20+ people are throwing back lychee martinis like it’s a competitive sport.
Now, let’s talk sushi. This isn’t your average tuna roll from a shopping centre takeaway. We’re talking perfectly balanced, melt-in-your-mouth sashimi, tempura rolls with that ideal crunch-to-sauce ratio, spicy mayo hits in all the right places, and generous platters that keep coming just as your last bite disappears. It’s not “fancy for the ’gram” — it’s legitimately delicious. I’d come back here without the booze just for the nigiri alone.
But make no mistake — the drinks are what elevate the experience into something iconic. Free-flowing doesn’t mean cheap here. It means jugs of cocktails that actually taste like cocktails, not fruit punch. It means endless sparkling, zesty margaritas, and the kind of staff who don’t give you side-eye when you ask for another round — they encourage it.
By the second hour, our group had taken over half the venue, dancing in our chairs, cheering on birthdays, strangers becoming friends across tables — the atmosphere was electric. You simply do not get that kind of energy at a bougie CBD rooftop or one of those overpriced brunch spots with a six-drink limit and a two-hour timer on joy.
We laughed, we drank, we toasted, we ordered “just one more round” at least five times — and the staff kept pace with every chaotic request with grace and smiles. That alone deserves its own award.
If you’re looking for an intimate brunch for two, Sushi Baby will still knock your socks off — but if you’re planning a celebration for 10, 15, or even 25 people? Nothing — and I mean nothing — in Melbourne can compete. Other venues either can’t handle big groups, skimp on food, or forget that brunch is supposed to be fun. Sushi Baby gets it so right, it sets the bar so high, you’d need a crane to touch it.
TL;DR: Sushi Baby isn’t just the best bottomless brunch in Brighton. It’s the best bottomless brunch in Melbourne — full stop. Don’t book anywhere else. Don’t risk it. Sushi...
Read moreIf you are wanting the best Japanese, look no further than Sushi Baby. The food is absolutely incredible and always cooked to perfection. The chef has amazing skill and takes so much pride for any item on the menu. This takeaway store is next level when it comes to Japanese in Melbourne (even better than Nobu!).
I usually order the SBK chicken - you can tell that they use fresh oil to cook their chicken in as it tastes so clean and delicious. The dumpling soup is also a MUST try!! I enjoy the tempura prawn sushi as well. However, their raw seafood is just as amazing. Their mochi boys are also a yummy cheeky treat!
If you are in the area or wanting a good feed of Japanese food this is the place to go. You truly pay for what you get at Sushi Baby.
Ps. The staff that work there are so accommodating, polite, friendly and willing to go above and beyond for their customers. I had ordered some take away and been at a yoga class. I knew they would be closed when I finished my class, so just asked for them to leave it under my car. Instead, they waited past closing for over an hour so that I could get my meal. This is just a small example of how incredible the food and staff are at...
Read moreWhat an amazing place!! We did the bottoms up for Sunday lunch and couldn't be happier. Firstly we had a few questions about the special as we had kids on our table so we rang for information, the guy we spoke to originally didn't have all the information so he took our details and said he would get the information from the manger when he started in 20 mins. Exactly 20 mins later the lovely manager Nick rang and filled us in on everything we needed to know so we booked, and so glad we did!! We arrived to beautiful decor and greeted by Nick the manager who gave is a quick run down and was very friendly, the food and drink service was fast and the food was fresh and amazing along with the cocktails and sake, Nick was checking in every time he went past which helped the service along nicely. Really can't fault the place with the service, food and atmosphere, Nick even closed the roof for us when it became too sunny. Can't rate the place highly enough, really surprised it wasn't packed out but I'm sure it will once...
