Do not have your party at this venue
For the most part the venue is fine, the terrace was nice and the room was good. But there were some negatives that also came with it, especially the food. Most of the guests said the food was disgusting of which most of it went straight back to the kitchen.
Another big issue we had on the night, was the in room music system. Being so asian influenced , there was a huge lack of basic music that would be expected when you claim to have over a 100,000 songs on the system. Trying to search up major artists to find none of their songs there, was extremely disappointing, and definitely affected the night, unless you have memorised all the artists initials you have no chance in finding it.
We also asked on numerous occasions to the staff in the room how to best use it, or even if there was a better way to search up for songs, and they also had no idea how to use it. This provided for a very frustrating couple of hours until we could finally plug in our own iPad and actually play the music we wanted.
Also there was 1 person serving 45 patrons in the room who was so far over her head, she had no idea where to start, and on top of all that had to be told how to mix drinks properly. Guests were complaining that they had to wait sometimes over 30 minutes for drinks, of which we did complain on the night about. That was completely unacceptable considering the amount of money we were spending, there should have been a minimum of 2 people serving all night. Dont waste your money at this venue, they promise first class service , definitely charge for first class service but cannot deliver on that promise. They hire unqualified people and leave them to deal with the issues in the rooms. We were also promised compensation after the night for the terrible service they provided, but that was another promise that disappeared , we received nothing . There are many better venues then this in Melbourne , save yourself the heartache and dont...
Read moreCame to celebrate a friend's birthday and thought we would try Ocean 12 to smoke cigars and have a few drinks.
After a somewhat sticky start, we had the most amazing time. The views are great, the selection of whiskeys are impressive, and they also have a good selection of cigars (in a proper humidor) that is in the price range you would expect.
You do have to reserve a table/lounge and pay a very reasonable fee in advance, which we did. This fee is deducted from your bill. This booking fee is to ensure a minimum spend amount. We booked for 4 hours but ended up staying till closing time.
I highly recommend having a warm XO with a cigar, if you've not had one before. That alone paired with the views, company and atmosphere is what life is all about.
The staff are top class. They are genuinely engaging, friendly, and ensure that you're enjoying yourself. I can't speak highly enough of them. They made our experience that much better. A massive call out to Alex, Wren, Jani and the rest of the crew. Professional to a fault and the definition of 5-star hospitality. 5 stars aren't enough for the experience we had at Ocean 12.
To coin Arnie - We will be back!
PS: FYI: The only con, is that the images of the brown leather lounges on the Crown website aren't entirely accurate for the cigar smoking area. Instead, you get comfy ish rattan chairs with cushions and other outdoor seats. I believe that you can see these in...
Read moreThis karaoke spot could be the best if the service and price improved. The staff were friendly and as attentive as possible. The system is great, the selection of music is wide and the option to download songs from YouTube is impressive. The rooms themselves are really nice and clean. The bar outside of the rooms is really nice too. However, the food and drink is incredibly overpriced. $19 for a soft drink or juice to mix your spirits with is insane, this should be free. About $40 for a small plate of fried chicken. $30 or $40 for a small bowl of rice. $16 for a small plate of fries. Makes no sense at all. There are no options to buy jugs of drinks like at most other karaoke places. In addition, when you buy a bottle of spirit they donât leave it in the room with you, most other places lock it in the room with you so you know how much you have left / know your bottle isnât being tampered with. It makes no sense for the staff to take the bottle with them out of the room and then for you to wait constantly for them to come back and refill tiny shot glasses half way. If their reasoning is so you can âdrink responsiblyâ then why are their mixers and food so expensive? Thatâs...
