Terrible experience. I can't believe so many people wrote good reviews. The bloke cooking/owner i guess was friendly, but he was crook wipping his nose on his sleeve continuously whilst cooking, the shopp was grubby, and the food was terrible. I also had a smashed potato given to me for free and it was crap. Really bad experience. Worst fish and chip shop ive ever been to and im 56yo. To the owner, before you get all defensive like you do when someone doesn't write what you like, you really should get out of the food industry because you have no hospitality skills at all ,your shop is grubby, your grubby and you cant cook, your oil was old too. That's why your fried food is so dark. My 87 year old mum lives down the road. We tried your food. Dont get all saulky and defensive with me i worked in restaurant kitchens for 10 years. Quality kitchens. Get out of the game is my advice. Try another line of work. I know this will hurt you but its the truth. Best wishes . You seem like...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreYou know that sick feeling after you eat fish and chips and an excess of deep fried food? Well that's not something I've ever felt after having anything from Pier 50. I noted upon coming in that this place does not smell like your local typical fish and chippery. You don't leave stinking like stale oil after spending 5 minutes in the store. Upon chatting with Ron I learnt that this was due to his oil filtration technique (between each fry) and ensuring freshly deep fried goodies have ample time to drip dry. The last time I recall anything being so freshly fried was back in Japan having tempura. To top it all off Ron is a great guy, honest to goodness local business owner which tops this all off. Couldn't recommend Pier 50 more and is our go to for fish and chips. P.S. Bacon potato cakes and home made fish cakes are to die for, be sure to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst time posting for this retail shop, I ordered a hamburger š with the lot and 3 potato cakes. I just want to say the potato cakes are the best I've had in a long time. I have tried 5 different fish and chip shops since we move into the area and hands down the best potato cakes in the area, soft crispy outside and plenty of potato on the inside. I will be back. OK so I have been back twice now first time to have the smashed potato cakes (Onion flavour) with gravy very nice must try. Second time smashed Potato cakes with bacon š„ again very nice must try. Also the Hawaiian Hamburger š very nice. Had to have the standard potato cakes with chicken salt š§. Great food all round and reasonably priced....
