I was craving for some greek food and I wanted to try something different and something new from my usual hummus and pita so I went for Pillar of Salt’s Greek Board and it was phenomenal! FOOD & COFFEE: I ordered the ‘Greek Board’ because alot of the things that were on it were food I’ve always wanted to try from Greek restaurants but never wanted to order full portions. This Greek Board is fabulous for people who want a bit of everything and can I just say the Loukaniko is the best sausage I’ve ever had in my entire life? Its so much better than chorizo because it has the texture of a sausage which is softer but the flavour is one that matches chorizo which has a hint of spice. The pita was super soft and amazing with the dips! I never tried taramasalata and was always curious and now that I’ve tried it, I can say it ruined me 🤣 The scrambled eggs were done really well as well and I liked how it wasn’t overly seasoned so the other flavours balance it! The saganaki was kinda tough and reminded me of halloumi but less milky. I also ordered a soy latte and it was good! It did however have a bitter bite! But the soy went really well with it! SERVICE: Service is really pleasant and friendly! They were really attentive and it was service with a smile! Also the food was served really fast which i luuuved! Pillar of Salt is one of Richmond’s very best and I can tell why! It’s bustling and full of people and it gives the CLASSIC cafe vibe which I love! The food selection is also so lovely, catering to savoury and sweet! I’ll definitely be returning 🥰

What’s better than having the first bite of salmon and eggs? Nothing. Here’s how the Pillar Of Salt is doing it right. Located in Richmond on the busy Church street, the Pillar Of Salt is a great venue that mixes the hum drum of a busy cafe in the front with a quiet space for eating out the back. The mixture of fitness focused people up the front looking for a caffeine hit mixed with business deals being made at the back just added to the charm. The service was definitely on point and I thoroughly enjoyed the banter with our host. I chose the amazing Nordic Breakfast – Vodka & Juniper Berry Ocean Trout Gravlax, Scrambled Eggs, Rye Toast, Dill Aioli, Mustard Sauce, Emmental Cheese and House Pickles. Now I must admit, I was a little hesitant to enjoy salmon and eggs for breakfast. A salmon roll, maybe. But this feast? First of all, those eggs were cooked in a way, I’ve never even considered cooking. It was sliced, yet, cooked just the way I love my eggs (fried) in this tangy sauce that melded with the ocean trout gravlax. And the dips were all kinds of heaven. My gosh, those dips. They were right on so many levels. Finalise that with thick rye bread with butter….and I was weak at the knees. How. How could they top this? Coffee. Their coffee was aromatic with a hint of sweet caramel and honey. I then tried it with almond milk. Sorry MB, but it just didn’t work for me. Go for the meal and the coffee, you will be glad. And the people watching doesn’t hurt either.

The food was quite nice and the place was very busy. I did have ants on my cutlery, but they did replace that quite promptly. What I did not appreciate was the dishonesty and how they have scammed their customers. The meal cost 18.1% more than what was advertised. This is not okay. The subtotal was $60 (for a hot choc, colour eggs, and smashed avo with halloumi). A weekend surcharge of 15% was applied (should have said on the menu, but this is somewhat standard of cafes now). This brought the price to $69. However, $70.84 was charged to my account (not included on the receipt or invoice). That $70.84 is over 18% more than the advertised $60. That is not okay. All prices should be displayed openly and honestly. This $24 cilbir eggs should have been displayed for the $28.34 that it actually cost. I would have been fine paying the higher price, if it was actually reflected in the menu clearly. I am very disappointed.

Nestled on Church Street in Richmond, Pillar of Salt is a standout café that effortlessly combines Melbourne’s love for quality coffee, inventive brunch, and relaxed, stylish spaces. It’s a place that feels both familiar and fresh — the kind of cafe you can return to time and again.

The interior blends rustic charm with modern touches: exposed brick walls, a central tiled pillar, and a spacious rear courtyard that’s perfect for sunny brunches or cozy catch-ups. The retractable roof and outdoor heaters ensure comfort year-round, making it a versatile spot regardless of Melbourne’s unpredictable weather.

The menu is a delightful mix of classic and creative dishes. Standouts include the Cilbir Eggs — poached eggs with herbed labne and cumin-spiced burnt butter on toasted Turkish bread — and the Red Chilli Scrambled Eggs, which offer a spicy kick balanced by julienned bacon and grana padano. For those seeking lighter fare, the Californian Superfood Salad is both nourishing and flavorful.

Coffee enthusiasts will appreciate the expertly brewed options, from smooth lattes to robust cold brews. The café’s commitment to quality beans and skilled baristas ensures a consistently excellent cup.

Service is consistently praised for being friendly and attentive, even during peak hours. Staff members are knowledgeable about the menu and eager to accommodate dietary preferences, enhancing the overall dining experience.

Whether you're a local or just visiting, Pillar of Salt offers a memorable café experience that captures the essence of Melbourne’s vibrant food scene. With its inviting atmosphere, diverse menu, and top-notch coffee, it’s a must-visit destination for brunch lovers and coffee...
