On visiting an Op Shop in South Melbourne, I spied @redpetite_thaicafe next door. Watching someone being served spring rolls and a rice dish and being 12.30pm, it ignited my tastebuds and in we went for lunch.
Between us we had fish cakes with chilli sauce, fried tofu with peanut sauce and a serve of roti. Add an #lemonicedtea and #lemonlimeandbitters on this warm day, it was the perfect light lunch. $9 for my tofu with plenty of pieces to make for an affordable snack.
The menu is extensive for such a compact restaurant. Seating for no more than 25 at a squeeze. Service was so fast and we were eating within 10 minutes of ordering.
Plenty of other reviews with recommendations that I’ll take into account for next time.
This may be my new “go-to” for a fart and tasty meal in South Melbourne.
Notes: Child friendly. High chairs available. Licensed. Parking out the front but you’ll need to buy a ticket. Dietaries catered for.

Read moreFirst tried Red Petite delivered, and it was fantastic. Beautifully tasty curries and noodles made with fresh ingredients and lovingly prepared. Not to mention that the quality of their food is consistent, and servings are so big that I get two meals out of one curry. It quickly became my favourite place to order delivery from.
I only recently made it to their store for the first time and was extremely relieved to find that their food there is of the same quality, as ridiculous as that may sound. We kept it simple, me ordering a red beef curry with coconut rice while my fiancé ordered a chicken pad thai. Of course the food was reasonably priced, delicious, and of generous servings. The meat was plentiful and cooked just until tender. It's a tiny place, as the name implies, but comfortable enough. And the staff are wonderful; prompt, friendly, and attentive, without ever getting annoying.
We'll be back for sure. Many times. Please never...
Read more@redpetite_thaicafe is a warm cozy restaurant in South Melbourne. Such a local gem! I absolutely loved the homey intimate ambience. Based on conversations I've overheard, seemed like they had lots of returning customers.
We grabbed Thai Fried Rice, Pla Tod Kratiem, Green Curry, and Phat Thai. All their dishes were simple but flavourful. Staying true to the fundamentals - freshly cooked, friendly staff members & generous portion size. Pla Tod Kratiem (fried fish) was ridiculously crispy and tasty. You should definitely try! When you are craving some hearty Thai foods, Red Petite is the place to...
