Soooo pleased to have found amazing pizza around d the corner! We previously had been going all the way into Hawthorn but this is so much better in every way 😩
The benchmark for good ‘za is always found in their Margherita. So of course our takeaway order consisted of: Margherita San Carlo (mushroom boy)
I always require a salad with pizza. I’m into nutrition and know that variety is important and also know that the best pizzas are the simple, classics with quality ingredients. This means a need more additional vegetables elsewhere 😅
Luckily, they have two salad options on their winter menu. Despite the current scarcity of lettuce and many other vegetables, they have you covered with in insalata rustica (classic pear, rocket and parmesan) & riccia. Riccia is a little different - slightly bitter chicory leaves, sun dried tomato, olives, artichokes, oregano, bread crumbs and an olive oil, balsamic reduction dressing - and so of course I went for this.
Everything in our takeaway order was fantastic. The pizza bases were 👌, delicious and slightly chewy - you know it’s good pizza when you could eat the base on its own. The salad was different, wintery but still fresh and well balanced. The mushroom pizza was delicious, the mushrooms were perfect and not overdone with truffle oil etc. We did discover that the balsamic glaze leftover in the container of salad dressing was a perfect addition to the mushroom pizza 👀. Highly recommend dipping or drizzling a little on the San Carlo.
All pizza is going to be more expensive that it was ten years ago - because everything is. Santa Margherita’s prices are more than fair and honestly less $$ than the larger stores of similar quality.
By going here, you’re supporting a smaller business who truly focus on quality. We noticed they were so much more generous with the mushrooms on the san carlo than the larger restaurants, and the salad was prepared with care and perfectly balanced - certainly not thrown together as an afterthought.
We can’t afford to buy takeaway or eat out often. When we do, we want to feel like it was worth it.
This place is more than worth it. So happy to have found it.
Thank you! 🙏 You’ll be...
Read moreSanta Margherita pizzeria in Camberwell offers convenient parking next to Coles. The friendly waitresses create a welcoming atmosphere, but the quality of the pizza falls short. My order was disappointing – excessive cheese overwhelmed the taste, lacking any distinctive flavor. The minimal sausage left much to be desired, and even the anticipated roasted pumpkin was disappointingly faint. In contrast, my husband’s pizza fared better, enhanced by the fresh basil. The restaurant, while modern, lacks a cozy ambiance that embodies the essence of Italian dining. Unfortunately, it misses the mark in providing that authentic Italian experience. Despite the kind service, the lackluster pizzas and uninspiring atmosphere leave little desire to return for another visit. Santa Margherita pizzeria may have potential for improvement in its culinary offerings and overall...
Read moreWas excited to give this place a go for lunch. We were the only people in the restaurant. Table of 4. Ordered Cheesy garlic bread and rocket and pear salad, 1 pizza and 2 pastas. Salad and cheesy bread was fantastic. But then the wait began. And we waited. Service did not offer an apology for it taking so long nor an explanation. Eventually I asked how long it was going to be and got the response of not long. Estimated wait time so far was about 30m. After 15minutes more of the kids complaining about when the food was coming we decided enough was enough, we went somewhere else. Disappointed given we were the only in store customers. Few food delivery drivers were waiting a...
