Sir Charles is a light filled nice space. Open and clean. However the more patrons the louder it gets with little sound dampening. Once you get a screaming child with parents who do not take them outside for the benefit of other in the room, the ambience dulls.
The menu reads well except the prices are a little higher than what I would normally expect to pay.
Coffee prices and quality are average.
The staff were good.
My wife had the Salmon Benedict which was OK. I had the more expensive Sir Charles Breakfast which I found disappointing. It had all the ingredients but the total was not greater than the sum of the parts which we have come to expect from most breakfast places...... Nothing special at all and very poor value for $28 (Plus the 10% surcharge and credit card fee, more on that below). Made less attractive as the baked beans were not even luke warm.
2 breakfasts and 2 coffees for $65.60 plus10% surcharge and credit card fee was $72.74.
Given the prices on the menu ($26 and $28) for the breakfast items we were considering, I checked the menu to see if there was a surcharge listed as is required by law in Victoria (saying "a surcharge of XX% on [specified day or days]), and must not be smaller than the font of the food items on the menu. There was no listing of a surcharge which is illegal.
I went out to a restaurant the night before and for our anniversary dinner of 2 excellent mains, a glass of wine and a glass of sparkling white we paid a total of $91.00 for a total quality night out.
It is not really about the cost, it is about value, honesty and managed expectations.
I take my wife out almost every Saturday and Sunday (travel up to 15 kilometres from home) and we have been to some excellent places and today does not rate a revisit by me.
If you are aware of the surcharge and order something where the meal is hot, your experience may be very...
Read moreWelcome to the epitome of breakfast and brunch excellence: Charles Sir. This culinary haven deserves every bit of its 4 and 1/2-star rating, and let me tell you why.
Let's start with the chippy and chicken burger. Oh, my taste buds were in for a treat! The crispy, golden-brown chicken nestled between fluffy buns, topped with just the right amount of sauce and crunchy lettuce—it was a symphony of flavors that left me craving more.
Now, let's talk about the steak burger. Juicy, tender, and oh-so-satisfying, it was a carnivore's dream come true. The succulent beef paired with caramelized onions and melted cheese created a flavor explosion that I won't soon forget.
But wait, there's more. The BLT sambo was nothing short of epic. Crispy bacon, juicy tomatoes, and fresh lettuce sandwiched between slices of toasted bread—it was a classic done to perfection.
And let's not forget about the service. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality. The staff at Charles Sir truly go above and beyond to ensure that every guest feels welcomed and cared for.
Now, let's talk coffee. Ah, the coffee. Impeccable is an understatement. But what truly blew me away was the latte art. It was like a masterpiece in a cup, so intricately crafted that I found myself completely immersed in it. Bubba buoy, I must say, Bubba buoy!
In conclusion, Charles Sir is a breakfast and brunch paradise that exceeds expectations in every way. From the mouthwatering food to the lovely service and impeccable coffee, it's a culinary experience that leaves you wanting more. Bubba...
Read moreWas there Sunday the 2nd Jan and to say it was the worst experience is an understatement. We waited over an hr for our food, were not told it would take long when we were seated, or when we ordered and they weren't busy at all at the time - never mind that there was about 35 people working at the time for some reason. While we waited we overheard a customer say he had been waiting 30 minutes for a takeaway coffee. When our hot finally drinks arrived, the coffee was cold and the chai latte was all water. The service was friendly enough but the particular person who served us was undertrained to the MAX. Didn't know the answer to any questions, but also didn't ask for help. Made guesses about stuff and when I asked him to just ask someone he said he didn't need to, but that he also didn't know the answer so best to just get something else. We were charged a surcharge even though the 2nd is not a public holiday and our order ended up being OVER $100!! there was 3 of us for brunch, and we got 1 cocktail each. Absolutely beyond ridiculous. When it came time to pay, we stood at the counter for 10 minutes surrounded by employees swooshing around - at least 6 people behind the counter - each one ignoring us completely. We eventually asked for help and the barista laughed and said "soon". Our table was cleared WELL before we were acknowledged as waiting to pay - We waited another 5 minutes then one of them finally said "oh. Can we help with...
