I was invited to Farro Fitzroy for a meal for two with 2 entrees, 2 mains and a dessert to share. As we have kids we paid for the meals for the kids.
We went on a Saturday early evening which meant we managed to skip the busy period, but the restaurant is quite packed by the time we left. Farro has a very laid back feel to it which makes me settle and relax quite easily despite of having the kids with me.
We started with a polenta chips and deep fried calamari as entrees. The polenta chips came out beautifully presented like golden bricks, sadly while the outside was crispy the inside wasn’t as fluffy as expected. The calamari wasn’t super fresh either, I can taste a slight fishy flavour, however nothing that deep frying and a bit of sauce doesn’t fix, and even the kids enjoyed it.
Hubby’s main was the potato and truffle pizza 🍕 that was soooooo delicious. The base was well made, the ingredients was tasty and it’s probably the best dish of the night.
I really looked forward to my squid ink pasta but once again because the squid wasn’t super duper fresh I could taste a bit of overfishiness laced throughout the dish, which meant I didn’t enjoy it as much as I should. However, I love the texture of the squid ink pasta and this dish could have been so very good if it wasn’t for the squid 🦑
The kids shared a spaghetti pomodoro which they enjoyed.
Dessert time and I wanted tiramisu. However the manager really wanted us to try the Nutella pizza as it’s more instragramable. I really wanted the tiramisu but went along with the manager’s suggestion. Thankfully the Nutella pizza with raspberries inside was really delicious and we did thoroughly enjoyed it. I always loved a chocolate raspberry combo so Nutella with raspberry is right up my alley.
Thank you so much Farro for inviting us to...
Read morePizza Farro has always been my favourite restaurant and I have always chosen them for special occasions. Today it was a special day for me and I booked a table last minute. They’ve told me I was going to have to seat outside but I agreed because they said they had heaters and so on, and I’ve imagined that if they were offering tables outside, I could trust they had the infrastructure to do so - after all, I trust them and they were my favourite restaurant for a reason. So I’ve got there, it was raining and I was surprised that the table they wanted me to seat at was in the rain. The biggest problem though was how badly the women treated us. First saying “two of you can be under the cover but the rest will be in the rain”. She also said “I don’t know why they’ve booked that table for you” - when she was the one who booked it. Then, when I asked her when would she have bookings in she answered “no idea”, and just checked the system because I asked her to check. Then I asked about Thornbury, and she said “I don’t have access to their system” and not offering any help in any way. The only help offered was the solution of having one of us in the rain. So disrespectful! I had to call the Thornbury branch myself, because the women just didn’t care about us at all. As they didn’t have tables as well, we left to another restaurant without any words from the staff member who was being indifferent to us. What I hate about this experience is that that unprofessional staff member just ruined my favourite restaurant for me. A special evening was ruined not because of the lack of tables available, but because of the inefficiency of a staff member who couldn’t at least treat us with a bit of friendliness and support. We were all sad and upset, and she...
Read moreWe had such a sad experience in this place. We ordered and entre and two pastas...our entré came after one hour of wait with one of the waitress saying " sorry there is a problem with your order we will try and fix it " . Because we didn't have anything plan after we decided to wait but after another 40 minutes wait we decided to ask the waiter and the reply was " I will check now " but no reply. We waited again 15 minutes and asked again and they said that it will be ready in 6 minutes. Well six minutes lasted way more . And after our pastas arrived we had another waiter offered us free drinks , which was really nice but after we ordered them they never arrived as well. We were excited to try this place and after this disappointing encounter we didn't enjoy much the food I am sure that could be better. I understand that can be problems with some orders but after one hour wait and the waiters acknowledging the problem with our order I would expect at least fix the problem or ask us to reorder if our order was lost or just be open about it instead getting kind...
