Its not the authentic Thai Restaurant you'd expect despite the high positive reviews! Don't be fooled by the reviews. :)
We were pretty dissapointed with the "Thai" dinner we came for last night. As soon as we looked at the menu, we knew it was not the authentic thai food that we were expecting to eat that night. We should have probably checked the menu first before booking. Its definely a fusion thai restaurant.
We ordered the veggie spring roll, papaya salad, Beef On Fire and the original tom yum soup.
The veggie spring roll was hot and crispy but lacked flavour. We've had veggie spring rolls that had a lot more taste than the ones at sumalee.
Big dissapointment with the papaya salad. If you're looking for a thai green papaya salad aka as Som Tam Thai salad, dont order it as its definely not the authentic thai salad you had in thailand or other thai resto where its composed of 100% papaya. Our fault for not reading the menu properly as we assumed it'd be the authentic som tam thai salad. So essentially the dish was composed of 90% shredded granny smith green apple rather than papaya. It was a very acidic and tasted like apples! We could barely taste or feel the texture of shreded papaya when we ate it. I was so looking fwd to it but I was very dissapointed. I told the waitress about it and she said its not a Som tam thai salad as you prob tried it in thailand- its a papaya salad!!! lol go figure! As for the aromatic coconut rice - that was a nice touch but unnecessary imho. Note to manager: name of the dish should be renamed to a "Green Apple Salad " :)
The Beef On Fire hit the brief with the level of spiciness and the beef was soft .
Staff: the two waitresess were lovely.
Ambience: Beautiful warm ambience but it gets very noisy when the restaurant is packed and its quite...

For a restaurant, food and service is where it is at and Sumalee didn't disappoint in anyway. My friends and I had an amazing night. Great atmosphere, clean and professional.
Food price is well worth it for the deliciousness. Ingredients are super fresh, tasty and to experience for. Sumalee is about quality and presentation but still manage to provide a great serving size. I am glad that it is because I got to enjoy entree, main course, dessert and walked away a happy patron. This is certainly a place that I will revisit and enjoy all over again.
Yesterday my friends and I went back to Sumalee, over the years it has just gotten better. The service is still top notch, very friendly, warm, welcoming and helpful. This easily is one of the best Thai restaurant I have the pleasure to experience.
Every dish arrived at our table was immaculately presented. When the food arrived, the conversations around the table actually paused. This doesn't happen often in most cases. It is a testament to their cooking and dedication for excellence.
Thank you for gifting my friend and I a most...
Read moreWas looking forward to coming to this restaurant as many people have raved about its quality. Regrettably on arrival the first thing that I noticed was how noisy this Restaurant is. The next issue was the menu is actually not very big. With only a limited choice of main courses and many curries. Maybe I’m used to Thai Restaurant that Offer quite a range of dishes but this establishment seems to be more of a modern twist. Sadly on our night after ordering our food, we found out that the kitchen was unable to make any stirfry. I was told new chef and the gas wok Was not working. We had to re-order from the menu and was restricted by our choices. Personally, I don’t need eat curry so had coconut rice roti and entree satay chicken but they were underwhelming m. A friend did have a lemongrass chicken and his wife the fish dish but they thought it was nice but nothing special they also had to choose alternatives due to no stirfry being cooked . My wife had a vegetarian curry but it was not her choice Not sure I would come back and while the staff and manager apologised, it would’ve been nice if they offer a complimentary coffee for our inconvenience as a gesture...
