Centre Charcoal Chicken & Souvlaki & kebab — Restaurant in Melbourne

I was here a few years ago and decided to try the food again, only to realise that the original Greek owners have sold the business. It is a shadow of what it used to be. First of all all, the floor was very dirty and sticky and you had to ring the bell for service otherwise there was no one in front of the house. We ordered the HSP lamb box and small chicken pack and fries. Prices are very significantly up, but to be fair it is reasonably large quantity of food. While the chicken and lamb was good, we noticed how everything was refried with a lot of oil- see pictures. This is not how Greek food should be. Unfortunately we will never ever be back. The owner was polite and friendly though. Note that I still had the wait around for 10-15 minutes before getting my food. Lots of much better Greek joints around, so save yourself the trouble and go elsewhere. ———— Very infantile remarks from new owners, frankly it was unbecoming of you. Use to be incredible under the old Greek owners, new guys don’t seem to get it. Took my girlfriend here for lunch just before Christmas having not been for awhile after talking it up to her as the best in the area having had such beautiful food here countless times before to my concern the old owners were gone and new people where there but they deserve a chance I thought. The Indian man who served me was nice enough, ordered a souvlaki and watched this younger Indian man throughout the entire process give absolute 0 care to making it, was talking to other people half the time in a foreign language quite loud and then was on his phone, he drenched the whole souvlaki in oil. Well run business - clean, great prices, and most importantly tasty chicken and chips (and the size of the ex lge chips is impressive in the packs). Really busy, but the whole place is run really well (with lots of staff to sort out the orders). I'd only say the chicken/chips is not the very best I've had, but it's the best overall chicken place I've been to in recent years (I'm fussy). Great value, and an easy dinner for you, or your family. And they were quick!
