Absolutely LIVID! Unfortunately i cant select 0 stars! I bought a pork butt from them on Thursday (Nov 2) for a dinner we were hosting yesterday. Opened the vacuum seal on Saturday night to prepare for smoking Sunday morning and the meat stank. Checked the expiry date and it was Nov 1. I threw the stinking meat out. Called store just now and was told I would not get a refund because I have not kept the meat! Apparently I need to have kept this giant piece of stinking meat in my fridge or freezer to bring it back to him to proof I didn't eat it!! Never going back! No apology for selling me out of date meat, the inconvenience it caused having to source ingredients last minute, instead arguing with me whether the meat was off, and being accusatory on the phone call. This is easily the best butcher in the area and one of the top butchers in Melbourne. I used to travel a fair distance to go to some other butchers that are far more expensive and don’t always have time to get you what you need if you’re after a custom order. Luke and the team not only have a great selection but they’ll specially prepare just about anything for you either on the spot or with a day’s notice for more complicated stuff. Another big plus is that it is one of the very few places in Melbourne that understand smoking/BBQ cuts and have everything you need in stock. A few years ago, most of us believed that the days of the independent suburban butcher were doomed, thanks to the duopoly of the big supermarkets. Happily, butchers like this one have not just survived but have worked hard to establish a whole new approach to the trade. The range here is varied and interesting with some innovative lines alongside the standard cuts. The sausages are especially good. And importantly, service is always very friendly and efficient.
