Such a wonderful marinade on the $9 bbq pork bĂĄnh mĂŹ. More like a thin sauce, that bled delightfully into the roll. Slightly tough meat but tender enough to be enjoyable. Yum! Really good. Wonderful balance of flavours. $8 cold cuts though⊠was an interesting flavour. Salty overall. Pate was generously applied but somehow got lost in the eating. Definitely not pate-forward. No question the bread was excellent. Really hard upper crust. The cold thá»t missed something to balance the salty. Soft carrots didnât provide enough sweet, nor enough sour crunch. No mayo, and alarmingly generous with the margarine. Only two out of the classic three cold meats available, but a fun addition of pork floss. Lettuce and cucumber but no daikon, and chilli smashed rather than sliced. She was very light in applying the spice, possibly forgot altogether in the cold cuts. Chatted with the friendly older Vietnamese lady serving. Overall a great experience at an old school bakery that actually does...
Read moreThe team here make a great balanced banh mi with delicious crackling and are willing to accommodate requests. Very reasonable prices for a good variety of Banh mi options. Staff are lovely and do a great job. Customer of 8 years. They stand up as a great smith street option. Worth a try. Iâm a fan of mixing some bbq pork with crispy pork and they honor my request. Itâs mind blowingly tasty, though Iâm sure it might sound like sacrilege to some. The grilled chicken is great too. Ask for pate if you like it a bit richer or more chili if youâre a spice fiend like me. They might charge another dollar(?), but they are lovely people who will get your order right. 10/10 service. 9.8/10 banh mi for me. Great quality of bread. Also the cold cut is delicious- so get into it! Veggie options are decent especially as the Veggie Spring rolls are now more delicious...
Read moreBĂĄnh mĂŹ here does not taste really authentic. The roll is quite soft, the veggies are just plain carrots and lettuce instead of proper pickled ones, and the sauce is very light â barely noticeable. The only upside is the portion size; half a roll was already quite filling for me.
Crispy pork roll: The meat is a little dry, and the skin is soft. There is no crackling coming with the roll. Pork kekab roll: The pork kebab texture is nice but tastes so plain.
Overall, if youâre looking for an authentic Vietnamese roll, this probably isnât the right place. But if you just want a quick, cheap roll to fill you up, then this...
