Ahh the Sycamore tree cafe, sounded so cool! Just Close your eyes and imagine you are teleported to Cole’s cafeteria on Burke street in 1974 and you’ll get a feel what this cafe is like. But you’d have to be over 50yo to be able to do that!!
Average age of the clientele was 75, and suddenly the 4.6 google review rating starts to make sense
The service is what I’d call “try hard” The menu was a real struggle to find anything that was actually cooked as opposed to assembled
I ordered the cottage pie and after I got over the shock on how small the serve was for $18 I’m pretty sure it was a slice from a McCains frozen cottage pie from Coles or Woollies, microwaved just short of Luke warm.
The side was a salad straight from the 70’s a bed of green leaves, complete with 2 slices of canned IXL beetroot, I was looking for the traditional orange slice and sprig of parsley but that was missing.
The Bunduberg Ginger ale on ice was the highlight of my lunch.

Read moreWe went for lunch on a busy day and could only get the table near the door. This was actually not a bad thing. This enterprise trains staff and it is successful. The food was unpretentious, delicious snd fairly priced. The menu was limited but catered for varied tastes. Comment must be made about the chicken and vegetable soup, served with crusty toast it was lovely. The coffee was very good in an area that gives you an abundance of choice. The staff were efficient and prompt with a great manager. This is burgundy street do not expect to park close by but you may be lucky. The decor was calming. We are fortunate to have this cafe...
Read moreIt’s been a while since I’ve had lunch or afternoon tea to Sycamore Tree Coffee Shop. Lovely that patrons were enjoying the inside and outside areas. You’d feel it as a welcoming country atmosphere, even though Heidelberg is a very busy suburb. Staff served like clockwork in a friendly, professional manner. The food freshly made at the cafe premises and the cappuccino (my favourite away from home) is delightful. Make a visit; it definitely won’t break...
