Could have been very good but unfortunately it falls short on most of the main areas:

  1. Food quality and price: Tom yum noodles had 2 balls and little meat with surprisingly bland soup, lacking the authentic flavour. The bowl is very small and the actual noodle portion is around 30% smaller than what's served at several other places, for example, Dodee Paidang on Swanston St.

Claypot prawn glass noodles had 2 prawns and almost nothing else on the small portion of noodles (note that actual bowl/claypot size in the photo is much smaller than usual bowl/claypot). For $22, it is certainly very expensive considering the minimalistic and small portion given. Besides that, the texture of the prawns indicate that were not very fresh and may have been frozen for quite some time.

  1. Taste: Tom yum and claypot prawn glass noodles are suprisingly bland which is unlike what's served other authentic Thai places

  2. Food Portion: Very small portions compared to other Thai places in Melbourne (around 30% smaller).

  3. Drink: The longan drink only had 2 longans and literally around 60% ice with mostly water and sugar. There is hardly any longan taste. It tastes almost just like plain iced sugar water.

  4. Service: Service is alright but unfortunately not everything paid for was served. Ordered and pre-paid extra noodles via their app for the claypot prawn noodles but weren't given. When asked, the staff just took away the noodles to the kitchen for the extra noodles to be added.

It is a waste as the place has a good atmosphere, has quite a good variety of food options and conveniently located in Emporium. Hope that they can very good one day as the potential is...

Highly recommended ๐Ÿ‘Œ A Hidden Gem with Authentic Flavors!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Thai Social, and I must say, it was an absolutely delightful experience from start to finish. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with a cozy yet modern feel, making it perfect for both a casual meal or a special night out.

The highlight, of course, is the food. Each dish was expertly prepared and bursting with authentic Thai flavors. We started with the salad which was the perfect balance of spicy, tangy, and sweet. For the main course was hands down one of the best I've ever had โ€“ the noodles were perfectly cooked, and the sauce was rich without being overpowering. The Curry was another standout โ€“ creamy, flavorful, and rich with just the right amount of heat.

The service was impeccable as well โ€“ our server was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and gave great recommendations based on our preferences. The staff made us feel right at home, and you could tell they genuinely care about providing a memorable dining experience.

Whether you're a longtime lover of Thai food or new to the cuisine, Thai Social is a must-visit! I canโ€™t wait to return and explore more of their...

ORDERED: ๐Ÿ Pad Thai with prawns: Thin rice noodles, beanshoots, chives, salted turnips and tofu ($19.90) ๐ŸŸ Crispy Deep Fried Barramundi with tamarind sauce ($32.00) surcharge

It was $52.89 for two people here.

REVIEW: ๐Ÿ‘ Thai Social provides your standard Thai fare. The pad thai was as expected. I did find it interesting that they didn't cut up the chives. It was presented as one whole stem and its leaves. In terms of the barramundi, the tamarind sauce gave it a twist. It has this distinct sour taste with a tanginess that's hard to avoid. Personally it was too strong for me, but it may be for you! Would've been nice if it the fish was crispier too. Portion wise, there was lots of fish to go around between 2 people and we brought the leftovers home.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Service was straightforward. There's QR codes on the table for you to order & pay, so the only real interaction we had with staff was when they brought the food out to us.

Thai Social delivers what you...

In the basement level of Emporium lies a Thai cheap eats joint. We grabbed an empty table, ordered via QR code from the substantial menu and settled back to wait. My Boat Noodles were hearty and had a hint of aniseed in the broth. The balance was just right so that it added interest without overpowering. The thin rice noodles, beef slices and pork balls made for a comforting dish on a cold day. The Grilled Pork Neck was full ofย  flavour and aromatic, but some parts were overcooked and a bit tough. We finished off with some Bua Loy - chewy rice flour dumplings in thick, creamy coconut milk. The decor is Hawker style with bright neon lights in the absence of natural light. Food came pretty quickly after the order was placed but service is minimal due to the self-ordering. Overall, a decent experience for a quick bite but not a stand out.
