We have been here in the past and loved the look of the restaurant but we always thought the prices were high for what it is. None the less we wanted to take my parents there as it's so beautiful and looks fancy. I booked early to get a good table but when we arrived we got given a tiny table to to barely sit 4 people. The lady said well you said 3 people but I double checked my booking and it said 4. My parents were upset because they felt we were just stuck in a hallway and with covid could get infested quite easily. After she left I complained to another staff member which was really helpful and put us in a table in the main dining like we expected and wanted. The whole ordering system was down so we had to go and order which was a hassle becuase We had to line up for food and again line up for drinks which was unnecessary and for the prices your paying you expect it to be more formal. After that we had to wait nearly an hour for our food on a Wednesday night. When the food arrived most of the food was cold. The steak we ordered bealry had any chips on it and no salad. The steak started off medium like we asked but got rarer the more you ate to the point it was so rare it was like it was pulled out of the fridge quite disgusting. Nearly 40$ and they can't even cook a steak. We complained and the staff were very helpful and gave us a refund for that because it was already 830 and we didn't want to wait another hour for a new one. All in all your treated more like let's stack as many people in as we can. We saw 8 people on a tiny 4 table. Really not worth your money for when you can go to a restaurant...
Read moreWhat has happened to The Old England? It doesn’t seem long ago that you could head off to this iconic Heidelberg building for a great meal with polite and prompt service but, alas, it seems those days are over. We arrived today and waited for some time at the unattended reception desk. I went to get a few dinner rolls and the normally abundant basket contained only two lonely rolls. My roast pork was average pub fare at best: the pork tasted like it had come out of a box where it had resided for some time. The ‘roast’ potatoes were undercooked, pale and soft and the crackling, while quite crisp, was lacking in any flavor. To be fair, the green vegetables were nicely cooked, firm and flavorsome. My partner’s dish, which was listed as slow cooked lamb and pasta, was an utter failure. Overcooked and stodgy, she ate a little but left most on the plate. I went to buy some drinks during the meal and was keep waiting even though I was the only person requiring service and there were two staff behind the bar doing ‘something else’. Finally I asked a girl who was cleaning the tables if she could get me a couple of drinks and she courteously helped me out. Also, the fact that there was no soap in the female toilets did little to inspire confidence in the hygiene standards of the establishment: do the kitchen staff use...
Read moreGorgeous place despite being a bit run down and nice staff unfortunately there were too many minuses to recommend. No beer garden. There was outdoor area close to modern pub at front busy street in front) but despite the roof people smoked there and menu was very limited. No English beers was a huge disappointment! The dining was organised really strange. There was a hostess that took you to the table (wow) but she was dressed as if she worked in tab (completely out of character for that role). Then you would not get the table service (bit inconsistent) but you had to order food in one place, order beer at another place and pick up bread rolls somewhere else entirely. They would bring the food to the table but roast was bland and salmon overcooked on a salad that was so bland it did not match the salmon at all. And with those prices you would expect to be table serviced (not running around the place like horse on the paddock) and get tasty food. I was going to give 3 stars (first impression was good) but just looked at all negatives and...
