The St Kilda Dispensary is unlike any cafe in Melbourne I’ve visited. Housed in a former dispensary, the cafe honours its history via its decor and menu with plenty of medical related touches.
Visiting for weekend brunch we ordered the corn fritters with smoked salmon and an added poached egg along with the saucy eggs with a side of chorizo. For drinks we opted for the mango elixir and nurse Betty dairy free smoothies. Everything we ordered came out beautifully presented.
The saucy eggs with eggplant, chickpea, tomato and chargrilled pepper sauce with Persian feta & salsa verde was packed full of flavour. The garlic schiacciata it was served with was perfect for absorbing all the sauce. Whilst the side of chorizo was delicious and just added to the dish. I highly recommend ordering this on a cold day.
The corn fritters with smoked salmon was another winning dish. The fritters were nice and crispy on the outside and worked beautifully with the avocado and feta mash. I loved the beetroot horseradish cream it was served with, the flavour worked nicely with the rest of the plate and the pink colour was very pretty. The added egg was perfectly poached.
Both smoothies were fruity, delicious and refreshing. I loved how they were served in flasks, very cute.
Overall I had a lovely experience at The St Kilda Dispensary. If you’re looking for a unique cafe experience with great food I recommend that you check them out. I rate it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5. Thanks very much...
Read moreSt Kilda Dispensary is definitely one of a kind! ✨
We thought the restaurant was just uniquely decorated, but turns out the building itself was first opened in 1940 as an actual dispensary (largest in southern hemisphere too!) 🏥 We were amazed at how all the little touches were neatly placed which showed the history of the building without making the place feel crowded.
Not only that, the food was great too. We ordered the Special item Corn fritters with salmon 🐟 and a New Yorker 🥪. Both were so tasty and such great dishes for the summer ☀️
The corn fritters were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, the beetroot horseradish cream added great flavors to all the items on the dish. The New Yorker is a sourdough sandwich with beef pastrami, sauerkraut, cheese and mustard mayo which came with crispy pretzels, mmm can’t go wrong with that! 😋
Of course we didn’t forget to get yummy iced coffee and fresh OJ which was served in a cute beaker 👩🏻🔬
The staff were so friendly and very attentive to our needs, we really appreciate that 🥰 We also loved hearing the history of the place, so whenever you visit don’t forget to ask questions about the place (only if they’re not busy though!)
We definitely see ourselves coming back here. We were talking about having a brunch party where everyone dresses up as doctors, nurses, etc to fit with the theme of...
Read moreThis cafe is like home for me (literally!). I actually live in the building this cafe is attached to and have been an avid customer since day 1 of its opening. Set in the actual building which was one of the first dispensaries in Victoria, it exudes the same decor and warmth that I imagine it's former purpose must have embodied. It's been lovingly restored by owner Kristie and offers fabulous coffee and generously sized portions of delicious eats. What I love is the menu doesn't change so I know I can get whatever I'm craving without the disappointment of finding it's no longer available on the menu. I can say I've tried everything on the food and drink list and it never fails to disappoint. The staff are down to earth and personable making everyone feel welcome. The price is great given portion size and the cakes and sweets will delight you as well. In addition, there are also some high quality dispensary themed gifts available as well - I love smelling the candles and admiring the other gifts on offer. Fast becoming a notable St Kilda staple. Will...
