A lot of the reviews mention cheap prices but understandably prices have gone up over the years. Pricing is ok but I wouldn't necessarily call out the affordability.
I think they're probably better at their main and cold dishes with an authentic Northern Chinese focus. So this review is partially a reflection of us not ordering their specialty.
We tried their green onion pancake (shown in old menu at $5, but now $8) which didn't have much green onion, wasn't flaky, and was fairly heavy and dense. See the pic.
Also, we tried their Shanghai pan fried pork dumplings (sheng jian bao), because that's one of my favorites, and it didn't have much soup or flavor and the skin was more doughy. Also, $17 for 6 dumplings is a hefty price tag.
Pork noodle soup was ok but a bit on the salty side.

The sautéed pig kidney and spicy pig intestines were incredibly authentic — they tasted just like the traditional Sichuan dishes you’d find in Sichuan itself. I also got a takeaway of shredded chicken in chili oil, which was equally delicious. You can tell these are freshly made dishes, not pre-prepared, and you won’t feel overly thirsty afterwards. Had a lovely chat with the owner too. I’ll definitely be coming back to explore other dishes on the menu, and have already recommended this restaurant...

It's certainly not much to look at from the outside. I'm a local and saw previous reviews talking it up so decided to give it a try.
Personally I just didn't enjoy it. I wasn't able to finish it and called time half way through. Just felt like there were too many different flavours in the same dish, also very oily. Dumplings were so so for me.
I really would of like to of rated my experience a more positive one. Maybe it was an off day but not the hidden gem I had hoped for.
