Im not in the food industry by profession, but as a would be food/restaurant/eatery enthusiast/connoisseur, I feel I've experienced a lot of different eateries. While on holiday in Melbourne, I stumbled across this joint as it was the first 'korean eatery' near me to pop up on Google. I am of Korean descent, but have resided in New Zealand for most of my life.
The vibe is nice, descent size and upon arrival just before 7pm, the house was near full house. Corner store and nice bright interior with a modern interior look to it.
I don't eat out for the restaurant, I eat for the food.
Japchae Was very flavour full and was probably a good 7/10.
Sausage Soon dubu jigae (soft tofu soup) Full of ingredients, however, the soup itself had no flavour. I dont even think the chef tried the flavour before sending out. Just bland, would have been fine with some seasoning further spices perhaps? Disappointing as this is their specialty, the restaurant name translates to Tofu. And they claim to be the tofu House?but their tofu dish was well below standard. Well below, 2/10.
Hamul-pa-jun (seafood pancake?) Tasted ok 5/10, the mix would be better if you used a packet mix from korean supermarket. This mixture is obv made in house, and feels/tastes like fish and chip batter. Lacking seafood, in 3 pieces out of the 4 served.
Service was below par, restaurant was fairly good in cleanliness, food, barely scores an average, and definitely doesn't live up to a tofu specialty house title. Staff weren't overly friendly, like they just had no life left. Chef needs to make some changes, and try the food themselves. No ones keeping an eye on whether service is required once food is served or to check if everyone is OK, constantly had to ask for service and wave someone down. Not the best experience at all
I hope someone from the restaurant or management take notes of this and make some changes as there is a lot of potential in this place and although close to a full house, the basics of a good restaurant missed the target for our table atleast....
Read moreI took my 2 year old in for lunch today and ordered the signature combo, it came with pork neck, soup with noodle and some side dishes. When we nearly finished the meal I saw a small cockroach in the soup. Feeling quite disgusting especially after my daughter has some of the soup too. I called the waitress and she just took the bowl and said” i will check with the kitchen” without apologising. Not sure what she wants to check coz it was pretty damn obvious its a cockroach! Then someone else came and said “ we will make you another one for take away” and she left quickly, didnt even give me an option if I want a refund. Then after sometime she brought out a soup——-no noodles inside , just soup base. It makes me laugh at how stingy and unprofessional these people are. I ordered a soup with noodles inside but they just remade the soup base for me to take away!!! I will Never ever return although I have been there many times in the past,...
Read morePossibly the worst experience in recent times, Food took a very long time to arrive despite the store being only half full. Had 3 staff serving but they did their very best to walk around looking at the floor and avoid eye contact with customers, we had to get up 3 times to get more napkins, ask about ordering and about ordering extra things. They have that annoying system to dcan qr code and order, or u must get up and go to the counter and seek one of these eye contact avoiding staff and make an order. If you wanted to order extra item or a drink? U have to scan the qr code again and go thru that process again and or again go to the counter and seek out these eye contact avoiding staff and order one. What makes the eye contact more difficult is that the girl on the counter is constantly on her phone txting. Worst experience for average at best...
