Toby’s Estate Flagship Melbourne: A Sneak Peek of their comeback
I had the privilege of a sneak peek at Toby’s Estate’s flagship store ahead of its grand reopening on January 20th, and it’s safe to say this will be a new hotspot for coffee lovers, and explorers of Rose St. Fitzroy.
I had a flat white, made with their signature Woolloomooloo blend, was velvety smooth with a rich, chocolatey finish. Also tasted their filter coffee, featuring single-origin Ethiopian beans, was bright and fruity with a complex depth of flavor. Finished off with an iced latte using decaf beans was a pleasant surprise, retaining all the richness and body of a fully caffeinated brew.
Their savory bagels were equally impressive—fresh, generously filled, and very satisfying. Perfect for pairing with their expertly crafted coffee.
The staff, led by the enthusiastic Linda and Daniel, were warm, welcoming, and clearly passionate about the reopening.
The space itself features an open layout that encourages interaction, creating a relaxing atmosphere. Whether you’re here for a quick coffee or a leisurely visit, Toby’s Estate promises a stellar experience. I can’t wait to return after the grand opening to see the buzz this flagship will surely create!

Read moreI am not a coffee person at all, but since Toby’s was once voted the number one coffee in the world, I thought, why not just pop by and try it for myself.
I ordered a latte. And to be fair, I actually really liked it. Smooth, well balanced, and not overly bitter. But coming from someone who does not drink coffee regularly, I do not think I am qualified to give expert feedback on flavour notes or beans or roast levels. All I can say is it was enjoyable and felt a little bit like a treat.
The space was clean and had a good crowd without being overly packed. Service was quick and friendly, and they did not give me the side eye for clearly being a tourist just here for the experience.
This visit was more of a bucket list moment for me. A been there, done that kind of stop. Try the number one coffee in the world? Check. I can now say I have done it even if I still do not know the difference between a flat white and a cappuccino.
If you are a coffee lover, I am sure you will appreciate it even more than I did. But even for a non coffee drinker, I left satisfied. Would I return? Maybe, if I ever decide to explore the coffee world a bit more. But for now, it was a nice one off experience that lived up to...
Read moreToby’s Estate is easily one of the best coffee spots in Melbourne. I’ve passed by countless times on my way to the markets, always meaning to stop in—but kept forgetting they close at 3pm. This time, I made it a point to drop in before they shut, and I’m so glad I did.
I ordered a flat white, and my aunt—visiting from Hong Kong—had a latte. Both were spot-on: smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced. You can really tell they take their coffee seriously here.
If you're planning a visit to the Rose St Artist’s Market, I’d strongly recommend grabbing a coffee here first—it’s a great way to start your Fitzroy morning.
Afterwards, we made a day of it, stopping by Lulu and Me Cheesecakes (delicious), Lune Croissanterie (always a treat), and wandered through the outlets on Smith Street. So if you’re in the area and looking for inspiration on where to go next, that’s a solid little itinerary.
Just don’t forget—they close at 3pm! And the Rose St Artist’s Markets are only open on Saturdays...
