In-Depth Review:
Customer Service 5/5 Polite and very friendly staff, with a human touch to customer service. All staff were very friendly. Well done!
Food 10/5 *Eggs Florentine - One of the best, if not, the best eggs Florentine I've ever had! Selected toast was soft, but not too hard or too soft. The perfect texture. The ham was generous amounts stacked, there was a good four layer of ham. Very good ratio of meat to toast ratio. Top this off with perfectly poached eggs, excellent hollandaise sauce and spinach. This is heaven on a plate! *Karaage Don was also made really fresh, delicious authentic Karaage recipe. Crisp, fresh, hot and just the right amount of crumbs and meat. That presentation as well just kicks it and makes the Karaage pop with colours! *Strawberry & Blueberry Cheesecake - Even though I don't have a sweet tooth for deserts and sweets, these cakes were actually THE BEST cakes I've had in a LONG time! They were generous in portion, although dry looking, too my surprise they were extremely soft like pillows and moist! They just melt in your mouth and create a heavenly sensation in your mouth. Whether you like cakes or not, you must try these! I will 100% be back! *Latte as well was perfect. Executed with amazing latte art. There are no faults in this Cafe!
Value 5/5 *Of course, you can't pay for a ticket to heaven. But here, you can pay for a ticket to take your taste buds to heaven. At only $18 for my Florentine, it's very cost effective to go to heaven anytime!
Atmosphere 5/5 *Authentic Japanese Cafe - Modern Japanese with an Australian Twist in the menu. The menu looks very unassuming, very subnormal. The food and presentation are just on another level!
Overall *The. Best. Cafe. Dot. That is all I can say. Execution, perfect. Hospitality, superb. Food, sensational. Coffee, aesthetic. You can bring anyone here as it's warm, cozy and clean. Thank you for exisiting! Keep it up an...

When you think of a good Japanese café, you probably picture those tucked away in the suburbs. Luckily, there’s this cozy spot on Little Collins St for all you CBD folks.
It might be small, but they’ve got a big menu – brunch, daily rotation of donburi, sandwiches. Don’t miss their cake cabinet (I did 🥹) and Japanese-inspired drinks. Worth checking out, for sure!

We enjoyed: 🐷 Kakuni (Braised Pork Belly) Bowl $21 🦐 Chilli Prawn Scramble $24 ✨ NEW ✨ 🍞 Strawberry Honey Toast w Matcha Ice Cream $16 🍵 Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte $9 🫘 Kurogoma Oat Latte $6.5 ☕️ Latte $4.5
The flavour of the Kakuni was perfect, similar to the Chinese style in sweetness. I do prefer more fat over lean cuts of meant tho!
Chilli Prawn Scramble had a pleasant level of spice, possibly due to absence of the seeds in the chilli slices which were thicker than usual, it added a nice fresh crunch as well. Prawns were bouncy and toast well buttered.
As for the Honey Toast, the caramelised honey glaze gave it a sweetness similar to condensed milk. Toast was super thick and fluffy, ice cream kept its shape well melting slowly. The ratio was perfect making it refreshing!
I really enjoyed both drinks more than I thought, the Kurogoma especially worked well incorporating oat milk.
It’s not my first time grabbing an affordable donburi here for lunch, but definitely my first sit in experience (it was lovely 💕). You’ll be seeing me around...
Read moreHonestly, our experience at Tomo's Cafe on Little Collins St was a total letdown. 😔 We went in excited for a chill breakfast, but what we got was a masterclass in chaos. Our order was all over the shop from how the staff run the cafe - they got my smoothie flavour wrong (Bananarama instead of Spiced Banana 🤔), the cappuccino was lukewarm and although they remade it, it says a lot and they need a real barista as this is Melbourne and we know our coffee. ☕️ Also don’t even get me started on the 'extra smashed avocado that we paid $5 extra each for the sandwiches' that showed up 5 minutes after our sandwiches and only after we had to ask for them. 🥑 Unfortunately the sandwiches themselves? Underwhelming, edible, but I’d rather went to subway!
But it wasn't just the food that was a problem - the seating area was cramped, and we were basically were forced into a cramped space that we unintentionally were eavesdropping on the table next to us. No way you can block that out when it’s a cramped space to begin with.
Needless to say, it wasn't exactly the relaxing breakfast vibe we were after 😬. Given the choices and range throughout Melbourne , I'd say skip Tomo's and try somewhere else. It's just not...
