Thai Som Boon — Restaurant in Moss Vale

Disgusting! This restaurant is a rip-off, with a very dishonest owner. Anyone with a sense of morals should avoid this place at all costs.

A friend booked a dinner for a group of us, a table for 25, at Sattahip Thai restaurant in Moss Vale based on my recommendation. However, for some reason, we ended up at Thai Som Boon, and I assumed they had decided against my suggestion. Fair enough. Upon arrival, we mentioned our reservation, but the staff seemed confused. The owner confirmed our booking, yet no tables were prepared for us. It was unprofessional not to be ready for our group. The staff, while nice and lovely, weren’t very attentive or professional. Understandably, the food took ages to arrive since they weren’t prepared for us, and the service suffered from understaffing. After about half an hour, we received our entrees, and that’s when our group leader got a phone call from the owner of the restaurant and realised we were in the wrong place—the one we had a reservation for was just 50 meters away. It was disappointing to realize Thai Som Boon had misled us by claiming we were in the right place. We felt terrible for Sattahip Thai and were appalled by Thai Som Boon’s dishonesty. Thai Som Boon, Mona Vale (Southern Highlands)

I recently dined at Thai Som Boon, Monavale, and overall, I had a lovely experience. The food was absolutely delicious—authentic Thai flavors that really hit the spot. Every dish we tried was well prepared and bursting with freshness. It's clear that the chefs take pride in their craft.

The waitstaff were also a highlight of our visit. They were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, which made our dining experience even more enjoyable.

However, I did want to mention one point of concern. There was a lady behind the counter, who I believe is one of the owners, and her demeanor was quite cold and unwelcoming. It was a bit surprising, especially since she is the front face of the restaurant. A warm smile and friendly interaction can really set the tone for guests, and I think it would elevate the overall atmosphere of the place.

Despite this, I would recommend Thai Som Boon, Mona vale for the wonderful food and excellent service from the waitstaff. I look forward to returning for another meal, and hopefully, the atmosphere will feel a bit more...

Have had some really good experiences here when it first opened, but lately it has really gone down hill. The service is just terrible - things slammed down on the table so they spill, drinks never arriving, and the endless parade of people who can only carry two things but excel in ignoring people. The food has also gone down hill. Our coconut prawns were overcooked, tough & dry, the pork spring rolls were tasteless, the wagyu beef was definitely not wagyu - it was tough and gristly with a big layer of fat on the outside - and our soft shell crab salad was just thrown together, with about 1 teaspoon of a flavourless dressing in the bottom of the dish. The onions weren't even cut through and the whole dish was hidden inside a forest of giant lettuce leaves (not so easy to eat with just the fork they give you. What is their problem with knives?).
