I went here for High Tea with a group of friends - it was my 60th and my work besties wanted me have a special memory. Having been here before to celebrate another work colleague’s retirement I was really looking forward to it. What a total disappointment. There had been the booking and this had been followed up with various phone calls between the organiser and Bites By D due to a couple of dietary requires needed but when the first group member arrives she was informed there is no booking. On showing a copying of the booking on the phone again the staff member said we don’t have a booking. We were told to wait and were left standing for over 10 mins while they literally threw plates on the table. We were then given a beverage sheet to pick a drink from. On enquiring I asked is this on top of our tea which goes with the High Tea and were informed no this is you drink for High Tea - asking where is the bottomless tea which accompanies High Tea I was told if you want another drink you have to pay for it - what ……. ! The savoury stand came out and the staff member was very abrupt when she placed it on the table and told us what was on it. I have to admit to being disappointed with the very tiny croissant ( at this point I would also raise the question that 2 pieces of tomato inside a croissant does not come near what is acceptable as a vegan offering! the tiny Waldorf salad jar was out of place and some of us had this served in drinking glasses ( we did discuss if this was done quickly as they hadn’t prepared for us? the chutney mini pancake offering wasn’t that appealing. The savoury scone and curry type cream cheese spread was nice but the scone was very flat and dense ( more American type that light and soft in the middle ) the display stand did look lovely with the items on it. We were all trying to to make our drinks last onto the sweet offerings but most of us by now had cold tea and coffee when this arrived! This was brought out again in an ‘off hand’ manor - I appreciate that having to cater for a party of 9 the staff were put under additional pressure and had more work to do, they already had other groups in there. HOWEVER we were not the ones at fault and were the customers and would have thought their treatment of us would have been more caring due to THEIR error not ours. Again when the sweet stand came out it did look lovely and the sweets on offer here were tasty I particularly enjoyed the lemon meringue but I certainly would have preferred a traditional scone with this course rather than the flat savoury one from the previous course. The organiser of the tea was very upset as she wanted it to be a lovely 60th birthday memory for me - on paying she did ask the staff member for some form of compensation maybe a reduction in the cost due to their error and the way we were treated and was told we don’t have authority to do that you will need to speak to the owner! I would like to leave this on a positive note but frankly why should I. I feel so sorry for my work colleague who had spent time organising my work friends, collecting payments and liaising with Bites by D wanting me to have a lovely memory of a good afternoon spent with them. I do have a memory that’s for sure but it’s not of the wonderful afternoon tea which she had planned for me ! You have gone down hill Bites By D which is...
Read moreThe worst experience of my life. Reading some of the reviews I can see I am not alone in being completely ripped off by a dishonest owner and staff who 1) originally overcharged us 2) gave us misleading information on how many courses the high tea was. We were told 3 courses, a palate cleanser (tiny teaspoon sorbet) is NOT a course and yes we did double check on google to make sure. The owner argued with us that it was and that other places consider this a course however when we asked the staff that brought it out they said 'to cleanse your pallet between courses' when questioned further they were very tentative about saying it was' sort of a course in a way' when we confronted the owner about 1) being overcharged according to her website price and misleading us to think there were 3 courses for what we were paying for. On top of this the service we had was terrible, the tea came out without a strainer and it was bitter to the point of being undrinkable. The worst part though was how we got threatened and abused by the owner zoe when we told her we were unhappy with being mislead etc and wanting to only pay for the 2 courses we actually had. Instead of offering part compensation she pretended to call the cops and had her male friends and I assume dad come in to the store to intimate us into paying the full price. I couldn't believe what happened to be honest it was horrible. We waited patiently at the table for 3 hours for the cops to arrive (which never did) because we were happy to pay for the service we had but not the extra course we did not receive. Wish we had just called the cops at the beginning of the confrontation ourselves rather than be bluffed by her, abused and intimated for 3 hours, when the owner tried to manipulate us into overpaying. My uncle that ended up paying full price as he has a mental condition and he was extremely stressed out by her behaviour telling us over and over how we are horrible people and should be ashamed etc and didn't want to deal with her anymore. To top it off, at the end when she finally agreed to take of the extra course from the cost she said to leave a bad review and that she would laugh at it. She also said she had never had an issue like this before in the 7 years she was working there and owner. Looked on the reviews here looks like i'm not the...
Read moreThis is only my first restaurant review, we went to Bites by D for my baby shower on the 13th of June. As it’s BYO I purchased and bought with me 3 bottles of Moët, there was a total of 10 of us and 3 of us (inc me) who were pregnant and therefore not drinking... I have to say the high tea was delicious and the service was prompt. During the high tea, we had 2 bottles of Moët placed at either end of the table (I was in the centre). After high tea we went to leave and one bottle was empty and the other had a third left (which one of the girls took) it was a busy goodbye and I totally forgot the other bottle which was in my esky bag... However I phoned through on my way home and the owner answered (I didn’t know it was the owner at the time) and she said yes I will put it aside, I arranged for my friend to collect the bottle a few days later and she was told that there was none and we had drunk it all... I didn’t get phone call to say it wasn’t there and after I rang and spoke to the owner I was told that she was not going to question her staff and there is no bottle however she apologised for never checking on the day I rang... the main reason for writing this review is the fact that i know it was left behind and there was dishonesty as to what happened to it, along with poor communication and a lack of wanting to question staff?? The owner did offer to give a high tea for 2 as compensation however after speaking to her other partner decided not to?? I wasn’t that interested in going after what happened however would have appreciated the...
