I am indebted to staff member Alex who I met randomly last Friday and who told me all about this place. I moaned about not having had a decent bagel for seven years, and she promised Bagel-O wouldn't disappoint, and she was right.
To be honest I have stopped ordering bagels in Perth. The offering looks good before you order it - glistening salmon, crisp salad etc. - but then for some reason which nobody has ever been able to explain, they take the makings of a decent bagel and subject it to the pressure and heat of a panini press. The tragic result is a flat, lifeless bagel and a filling which is best described as a crime against both delis in particular and nature in general.
I am delighted to report that Bagel-O is very different. They have a selection of all the classic bagel types, made fresh in-house, and then filled AFTER you place your order. Not a vandalistic panini press in sight. All your favourite deli bagel fillings are here, some with a local twist, and for those enlightened enough to recognise the bagel as the pinnacle of savoury bakery achievement, it's heaven.
I had an extremely delicious lox on a plain bagel, although "plain" isn't a word that does justice to the heaven-in-a-ring I was servied. I believe they do their own salmon with a beetroot element to the cure, which puts a nice Australian finish to a delicious ingredient. Plenty of capers, dill, and perfectly sour creamy goodness bringing it all together.
Now, all this perfection comes at a price. Not the approximately $19 the bagel cost me - considering the ingredients and the quality of the product that was a bargain - I am talking about the time from arrival to taking the first delicious mouthful. If the length of the line outside a restaurant is the most reliable measure of what they are serving, be aware that there is a very sincere expression of appreciation going on here.
I arrived at approximately 1150 on a Sunday morning. It took about 15-20 minutes to get to the front of the ordering line, and then getting on for half an hour to get the bagel. Coffee did arrive within five minutes of ordering, which was a help.
Don't be put off by the wait. For bagels as good as this, made to order, there's always going to be a line. Think of it as a reassurance of quality. I only mention it so you don't have to extend your parking timer twice, like I did. These are bagels worth waiting for.
Of course, if you're in a hurry, you hate your tastebuds, and you're content to consume a vaguely bagel-shaped crunchy biscuit with contents that look and taste as if they ended their own lives in despair, other places in Perth may be...
Read moreLoved this place. Staff were friendly and the atmosphere was casual but upbeat. I was all for the 90's/2000's rnb hiphop music that they put on. Line was quite long to order. I have passed this place several times and they were always packed. If you can order early ie 8am when they just open, you can bring this as lunch to the office etc and avoid the long wait at lunch time.
The way to order was to pick what goes in your bagel then pick the bagel you want. There are pIain, poppy, sesame and everything bagel. They are $3.50 ea. While the Jalapeno Parmesan, Rosemary seasalt and blueberry bagel are $4ea. You can also just buy their bagel. They offer half a dozen for $18. Add ons are available to go along with your bagel such as chips, hashbrown, egg, cheese etc. They have their deli items as well such as pastrami, pickles.
For the day, I have their Lox. The most expensive on the menu. It was their house salmon with creamcheese, capers, dill, tomato and red onion. I also picked sesame bagel to go with the Lox. Mind you, Lox is $19 but you have to add the price of a single bagel. Mine came to $22. Quite pricey for a bagel. However, you can taste the freshness of the bagel and the ingredients. They made it to order. Thus the 15 minutes wait time.
Verdict: It was one tasty bagel and I will definitely be back to try their other bagels. Preferably early on in the day before 11 am to avoid...

Bagel đĽŻ! What an extraordinary find! It evoked memories of those charming Cuban shops in Little Havana, Florida.
Here's my breakdown: Concept = Ingenious Atmosphere = Uncomplicated yet stylish, perfectly aligned with their product Taste = Absolutely sensational Will we return? Undoubtedly, YES! đ
Recently, after relocating to the neighborhood, my partner stumbled upon this gem. Given our shared love for bagels, we couldn't resist. On a bustling Saturday morning, the lengthy queue only piqued our curiosity further.
Today, on a serene Sunday morning at 8 AM, we arrived as the first customers, but a small queue had already formed. The warmth and helpfulness of the staff left a lasting impression, as they expertly guided us through the menu.
While these bagels may not come cheap, they undeniably justify their price with an array of flavors and quality ingredients. If you're feeling indulgent, complement your meal with a variety of Dr. Pepper flavors for a well-rounded calorie intake.
And let's not forget the exceptional Latte that left us in awe! đ¤Š
Rest assured, we'll be returning and wholeheartedly recommend this place. One minor suggestion would be to consider adding another teller to expedite orders. Nonetheless, a solid âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸...
