Look, the service is fine (they often have a large queue and get through it quickly enough), and the atmosphere is fine too, but...
I can't in good conscience recommend anyone to get the food here. We had ice-cream cookie sandwiches and they were the most sickly sweet things I've ever put in my mouth, I couldn't finish them. There was so much sugar in the cookie there was still visible granules in the dough! It genuinely tasted like eating pure sugar.
I became concerned so I tried to look up the ingredients online on their website and was shocked to see that they don't list them, so you can't find out how much sugar they're putting in their cookies. I thought this was a legal requirement but apparently not if you are a small enough business (which these guys are) but I think it's very telling that they could and you would think probably would list their ingredients anyway for their customers information yet they haven't done so. I would bet this is because people would balk if they realised how unhealthy what they're eating is.
I know, I know, people probably think of you're choosing to eat cookies and ice cream then you're choosing to be unhealthy anyway, but let's be real about this, there's levels to it, a cookie with a teaspoon of sugar in is not going to be as unhealthy as one with a tablespoon in, that's just logical. I'm genuinely disheartened by the size of the queue of - mostly quite young - people going into this place, and I think most doctors and dentists would be too if they ever tried one of their cookies.
Horrific, please, for your own sake, avoid.
Or if you like eating pure sugar than go nuts, you'll...
Read moreWent here at around 930 at night and drove for 20/25 minutes to get there. I wasn't quite sure about how the menu worked so I just pointed to a cookie. The music was so loud that everytime I asked a question it wasn't understood along the whole process. She shouted "sauce?" at me and I replied "what sauces do you have?" and that's when she told me I got a choice two toppings (like popcorn and chocolate chips etc) which had nothing to do with the sauces??? ... I ended up getting a chocolate biscuit and vanilla ice cream. Biscuit was dense but not great, plus it was so full of sugar it has made my teeth sore afterwards.
Worst part of the experience was that the ice cream was horrible! Who stuffs up vanilla ice cream???! I could taste the alcohol-like taste from the cheap essense of vanilla they must have used to make it.
The whole experience was cheap. Cheap looking display, not even a menu on the wall - just the paper brochure ones by the door. Cheap furniture. Cheap tasting food. The only thing not cheap was the price! A whopping $23 for two biscuits and two scoops of icecream.
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. WASTE OF...
Read moreI am Get Chunky's biggest fan! Many years ago when Get Chunky was just starting out. I had heard of this place whilst living in Sydney and let me tell you.. It was love at first BITE!
I was hooked. It was an addition. Every time I visit home, I go straight to Get Chunky. One Xmas I discovered the Mint Xmas Cookie and it was my ongoing mission to have that cookie every Xmas. HELL OR HIGH WATER.
Then.. the world stopped in 2020. I couldn't physically get back to my beloved Get Chunky. Being stuck in Melbourne was isolating. I wondered if I'd ever get back for Xmas. But Daddy Mark pulled through and reunited me with my cookie (and family).
Once again I had to return to Melbourne. 2 week lockdowns turned into a months and I was locked out of WA for Xmas. With Xmas so soon to pass by, I lose hope. Alas, one day an Australia Post Express Box arrives and within was the Mint Xmas Cookie!
My mission to find a replacement in Melbourne has been hard and NOTHING compares to Get Chunky!
Happy to say I'll be continuing my return to Get...
