Another restaurant proving that you can spend a lot of money in Mount Lawley and still not get a good feed. Unagi (eel) here is microwaved from a packet, lacking seasoning and char grill flavour. Portion size is pathetic - four slim slices arranged over limp greens and overcooked rice. This would amount to maybe 1/3 of a whole unagi fillet! There was a greater volume of each other ingredient in the bowl (including daikon pickle) than there was eel. The chopsticks provided are the cheapest on the market, splintering easily while being difficult to control. I would rather have eaten donburi with twigs from my garden - at least the ants would add some protein and flavour to the dish. Seventeen bucks for a meal that mostly went in the bin. Apologies in advance to the friendly and professional staff at TME who...

My 2nd time to be in The Modern Eatery but 1st time in Mt Lawley, used to be a different restaurant hence the interior looks familiar. In anycase, they are a bit on the pricey side but you get what you pay for. We ordered Chef Aburi Sushi, Unagi Aburi, Miyazaki Chicken, and Salmon Roll (forgot the name). The aburi are nice and fresh, presentation is always superb, unagi is awesome since its a proper size and really tasty, chicken is tender and crispy, the salad that come was also nice and fresh, a good place to chill and have a date or even a place to drink since they are fully licensed for alcohol. You can get sake and japanese alcohol too. Overall is a nice place to go....

I order from the website for pickup and arrived 20 mins early waiting in the car, only to find out my ordered has been cancel, the lady at the front said so and dont know why i didnt get notified. I dont want this review to be negative as i havent even tried the food and the lady did seem to assist me with what she know, but prior to ordering i had to provide my email and phone number, so theres no reason for them to not know how to contact me, specially when they werent even busy. going forward, please give the customer a call or email them to let them know their order has been cancel as it may not be a 5 star from another person if this...

It's a great place to catch up with one or a small group of friends for dinner. The soft lighting and light coloured wood interior deco created a modern ambience, just like the name, and the food was well presented. However, the lady in charge was not so accommodating with seating despite our booking in advance, which was rather an unpleasant start. And, 3 out of 4 dishes we ordered were rather salty - the Crunchy Salad had too much sesame dressing, the Cheesy Tofu was muddled in salty soup base and the Curly Brown was again slighty salty.

takeaway and dine in review in one... we got takeaway sushi and went back to dine in a couple of weeks later. sushi is quite interesting and has a few different ingredient/flavour combinations. service was really good and had some friendly conversation with the wait staff. when we ate in it wasn't too busy and the dishes we ordered came progressively so the meal was paced quite nicely and really enjoyable. i'd say this is a bit on the pricey side if you just want quick sushi, but if you enjoy it then pretty good?
