Wharf Street Cafe (Nambucca Heads) — Restaurant in Nambucca Heads

My wife and I have eaten here several times over the last 10+ years as it was one of the best cafes around. It used to be very clean and had friendly helpful wait staff. Sadly not anymore. Overpriced, overcooked (on the verge of cremated). Toasted crosoint and according to the menu crumbed market fish salad and chips. Even when extremely overcooked it was obviously commercial processed fish, slightly better than frozen fish fingers. Almost no service. Went for lunch this afternoon, requested an outdoor table, told they were all booked. Before our drinks arrived the outdoor tables had been cleared for the day. So disappointed and embarrassed with my visit to Wharf St Cafe yesterday. This place was always my fav breakfast/lunch location and I always brought my visiting friends but yesterday will be my last visit. The menu was dull and uninspiring and frankly lacked any appeal whatsoever. The food that was delivered was even worse. I resorted to ordering simple scrambled eggs because of the lack of menu choice and what I was served was a tasteless, watery mess. My mother wanted eggs Benedict as it was always a favourite here but we were told they don’t have hollandaise! There was a distinct lack of effort in the menu production and even lower level of pride in food presentation. Coffee was horrible. Don’t be fooled but the menus on the website as they not what you will get...

I chose this cafe because of the gluten-free options. I had the opposite problem with the menu to other places, as there was not one dish listed that I wouldn't have liked to try, and each and every one of them catered for gluten-free needs.

By the time we left, both my friend and I declared it the best quality we've had in a long time. My friend had the fish and chips (stated that it was delicious and was clearly fresh). I had the salt and pepper squid salad with a chilli jam, which was melt in your mouth absolutely delicious to the point you don't want it to end. It's rare to get calamari this tasty and tender.
