In House Kitchen — Restaurant in Nelson Bay

Food was ranging from good to fair however service was disappointing. My friends and I made a booking and was told that a table would be ready in 15-30 minutes, we ended up waiting for one hour. This is not a huge problem, even though it was possible to let us in earlier if they were a bit more organised. The table we sat at the end was ready much earlier. At 11.35, we asked if we can order something from the lunch menu, waiter said no. That's understandable as well. We ordered from the breakfast menu and food came to the table fairly quick, however they didn't bring enough cutlery. Had to ask seperately. Asked to have some grain salad we saw at the counter, waiter said he'll ask the chef if they can serve that (Weird). Asked for water from one of the waiters, she didn’t bring it and saw her leave the restaurant a few minutes later ( end of her shift I guess). Asked another waiter for water, she said ok, than turned her back and took order from another table and she didn't bring it too. We had to self serve. They could just tell us to do that and not make us wait...

This USED to be the place our entire family looked forward to visiting..

Now: extremely overpriced, bland tasting meals.

We had a veggie eggs benny and the pea fritters. Fritter plate looked pretty but tasted of nothing but oil and a hint of onion, the mint and zucchini 'salad' was raw zucchini ribbons with extra peas and watercress with dressing, also tasteless. Poached eggs were ok, runny, but also with glibbery white. Hollandaise on the benny was the saving grace. $27 each for something uninspired.

On the upside: The waitperson was absolutely lovely and quick and helpful.

And the coffees were perfect.

When we said how disappointed we were at the till, especially being charged extra $2 for gluten free cardboard, got told we should have said something when the meals came out and that there have been no other complaints. In other words: 0 interest, let alone apology.

I don't send meals back as I know it means they get binned, but I do expect my feedback to be acknowledged.

Had a late breakfast here and it really was top stuff. Chose a bacon & smashed egg roll for myself & raison toast for my better half. The two slices of raison toast were huge and the egg in my roll had some flavoring added which was incredibly tasty & with plenty of bacon was absolutely delicious & filling. Coffee's were excellent. Staff were friendly & you get table service inside. Plenty of seating, with some outside, but it does get busy & full for good reason. There is a breakfast & lunch menu. Adjoining the inside of the cafe is a homewares shop with many beautiful items to admire. There is also an upstairs section of the homewares. The establishment is on a corner location & easy to access from two sides. Parking is relatively easy, at least outside of holiday time.
