Aromas of India restaurant — Restaurant in New South Wales

Went there on 14th october 2025, 6:25 pm . We were on long drive from QLD -NSW -ACT and back to QLD. So, decided to make a dinner stop at Coffs harbour have a look around the city and Big banana 🍌 in Coffs Harbour. Decided to eat indian . We were 4 in total . Ordered 3 chicken biryani and 1 Tandoori chicken . Ordered salad on request (out of menu scope- for me ) . Thank you so much on making them . Tandaroori chicken and salad was 5/5 . Biryani was 0/5. It was high on Masala and not colorful instead it was like a fried rice . Rice grains was lumpy and not even colourful. I would say it was wrost then a fried rice . A biryani should compose of safron rice , turmeric rice , white rice and colorful combination . Not much more chicken pieces was there . By respected loved brothers did not even eat 15% of Biryani . But Tandoori chicken (for me) was nice . Asked for some discount but did not got . Suggested talking to FOH boy the biryani was shit . Service was good ....

Okay, there are some dodgy reviews on here about this place and I can only guess they must be associated with some other restaurants in Coffs. We are locals and have been eating here ever since this place opened many years ago. It is a family run business with kids helping out folding napkins and cutlery behind the front counter and bringing water to the table which brings a nice feeling to the place. Service is good, staff are friendly but the food here is AMAZING! It is our go to restaurant on a regular basis! Prices are reasonable and the servings are significantly larger than the other Indian restaurants in Coffs. My go to is the Mango Chicken, the wife and kids always go for the Butter Chicken and over the years I think I have sampled every item on the menu.The chilli chicken is another favourite. Worst Indian food ever. The biryani looked like curry mixed and mushed with rice, chicken and goat karahai was salty as hell. Speaking to the receptionist and owner too, The staff admitted that the dinner that were served to us was not made by the chefs but one of the other staff because chef went home early that night.I spent $78 and asked for a refund , they said me to call tomorrow to talk to the owner, we ended up getting domino's since it was past 9pm. And not many restaurants open after that.

And to make it even worse, the staff said to me that they spoke to the owner and said they can't do anything about it. Don't go to this restaurant if you want to save your time and money, such a horrible experience, even after accepting the fact the food was complete mess because of not being cooked by a actual chef, they offered nothing, not even a apology.
