Lilly Thai Takeaway - Warners Bay — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

Have been ordering takeaway from Lilly Thai for years, moved away but are now back in the area. Unfortunately they don't deliver over our way anymore so we ordered through UberEats. The Red Curry with chicken, was very good as always with just enough heat (medium?)for me. Lots of veggies, fair amount of sauce, not too thick nor too thin, cooked well. Only thing I didnt expect or much like was the addition of pineapple, but that's just my preference. The Pad Kapow Stir Fry with Pork was spicy enough for my heat loving partner, with a good amount of vegies and meat. The Thai Chicken WIngs were very tasty and the lemon sauce provided was a pleasant addition. Steamed Jasmine Rice was cooked perfectly. Everything arrived, carefully packed and piping hot despite the 10 minute drive for the UberEats delivery person. My wife and I are thai food lovers. We have been to Thailand on numerous occasions mainly just for the food and locals. We have never tried this restaurant before, and the name was the same or similar to a fantastic thai restaurant in Toukley. My wife suggested it on the way home from work, I agreed to give it a try. She was greeted and made the person aware that we are thai food tragic and wanted to be assured the food was good. My wife said "sawadee" the person responded with a thumbs up. I saw the result when she got home, my entrees, mixed entrees, was old looking, soggy pastry with no filling. The chicken wing you wouldn't buy from a take away and there was burnt looking beef strip's. It all basically went in the bin. The fried rice was old looking, not a sign of freshness in anything. If you are going to charge decent money for your food, get your act together, because that meal was way...

The food quality can really be hit or miss here. We used to be regulars but after a few bad meals we decided to give them a miss for awhile. Tonight we gave them another go (the other Thai place couldn’t deliver) We ordered chicken satay skewers and a chicken green curry with rice. The chicken satay was dry and over cooked, parts of it seemed like it had been over microwaved , as for the green curry with jasmin rice, to be honest it was awful. The chicken was like thin hyperprocessed rubber, the sauce was bland to the point it had no taste, the vegetables where far from fresh being either mushy or raw/soggy and worst of all the rice had set as one solid block, as if it had been sat in a rice cooker all week. If you can’t get rice right there isn’t much hope with the rest. Defiantly will be staying clear for good now.
