Ocean City Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

Sad to say we were quite disappointed. Had read a number of ppl recommending Ocean City, but we don't really understand y. Only thing we can think of is that they're recommendations from locals who need to venture out of their area n experience restaurants elsewhere more?! Restaurant ambience/atmosphere is dated n not nice, n it's the first time in my life ever.. in any type of restaurant... that I've ever eaten off plastic plates (similar to what kids eat off) n they're not in great condition either. Odd n quite basic. Food was ok..nice, but only nice. Long soup n sweet n sour pork wasn't though n neither were the prawn cutlets we were told were properly made ones. Been going here every month or so for many years and just keep going back for more, plus the occasional take-away. Their food is a standard by which I judge all other Chinese eateries and very few in many parts of NSW have come anywhere near that of Ocean City Chinese at Belmont (Newcastle). That view is endorsed too, by family and friends. Service is outstandingly prompt but in eating, we are never hurried. Food is fresh, cooked to perfection and full of flavour – their special fried rice is one of best I’ve had as are their in house made dim sims. The decor is average but presentable – the staff are friendly and give excellent service. The price is very reasonable and the meals are more than adequate. Shocking customer service. We ordered a meal to celebrate our anniversary. I ordered fried rice. Chic chow min, and sweet n sour pork. The girl said ' is that large?' I said all the meals are large. She then hung up. When we got home we got the fried rice the chow min and a large container of sweet n sour sauce. I phoned and the girl was rude saying that's what written down so that's what I said. I said why would I want half a ltr of sauce? We went back a a male came out saying the same thing..I repeated to him tell me why I would need thst sauce. He then said do you want the pork I said yes thinking he would maybe comp it for all the wrong..but no he charged me....shocking and rude service...We had microwaved Chinese for dinner as ours was cold due to having to go...
