I don't drink lots of cocktails prior to dinner. I know, I know... What does that have to do with my review of Season Restaurant & Bar? Well I can safely assume one of two things is true: 1) the folks who rated the food here as 5 stars were sloshed prior to eating, or 2) their sense of culinary mastery is embryonic at best. The only thing "season"āed is the name of the establishment. We started our meal with the beet salad. There was a nice mix of different beets which were pleasing to the eye, accompanied by soft cheese, walnuts, and diced figs and a few leaves of endive. It could have used more bold vinaigrette or infused balsamic vinegar, but I digress. It was decent. My BBQ ribeye had a crust that I could not comprehend, (try as I did) and the sauce reduction was so-so. The mashed potatoes were bland, uninspired and barely above warm when they arrived. The overall plating was elementary and far removed from anything approaching 5 š. I would have preferred less food with a more refined execution. My wife had the crab pasta, which she said was a bit oily but had a pleasant garlic flavor. You can decide for yourself if that is a ringing endorsement. My son's meal was better than mine... the chicken & chips. The chips were nicely prepared, crispy and salted well. The chicken was plump and juicy. I should acknowledge that the restaurant was packed when we arrived. It is possible that had there been few patrons dining in the 8-9PM window, the experience might be better. The staff were friendly enough, but not effusive.Ā The restaurant was super load, and quite dark. Did I neglect to mention that the two slices of foccacia bread were $11? Much like our meal... overpriced and under-delivered....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe had dinner with friends and ordered the lamp shortloin and eye fillet, both of which were delicious, although the portions were a bit small. However, we had difficulty reading the menu due to the lack of adequate lighting in the restaurant. Most people at the restaurant were using their mobile torches to read the menu, which made the dining experience less enjoyable. It's unfortunate that the restaurant isn't very kid-friendly either, as it's difficult for children to sit still in a dark room with dim lighting.
Kids menu : We ordered fish and chips for our children, but we were disappointed with the serving size. The dish consisted of two small pieces of fish with a large bowl of chips next to it!
Additionally, the restaurant only has a few tables with a beach view, and the rest are on the other side with no view. If you are lucky enough to get one of those tables, then enjoy the view, but don't count on having a beach view at all times.
While I'm glad to have had the experience, I don't think I will be returning to this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBirthday Lunch with girlfriendsā¦.once again I was reminded that Season IS special! The food was wonderful, with added flair for each dish, we all appreciated the food, and its beautiful presentation. Two of us chose the Tuna salad - and were delighted with the delicious flavours and great tuna. Two chose the snapper with a mandarin beurre blanc sauce, and were equally delighted with their choice. Our other friend chose the lamb and raved about her choice, also. We chose two items from the dessert menu - the pear & almond and the lemon curd - these were both standouts, and everyone enjoyed the delightful flavours down to last morsel.
Waitstaff can make or break a restaurant experience, and Chris, our waiter, was excellent and patient - took lots of photos for us. I had requested a table near to the front window and we all enjoyed the wonderful views across the beach and the bay. It was an idyllic day, perfect to appreciate the beauty of where we are...
