Great Find on The Strand! First day in Townsville and stumbled across this little fish and chips shop while exploring The Strand. I grabbed a prawn salad to cool off — fresh and perfect for the heat. The friendly receptionist let me know their hours and introduced me to their easy online ordering. Later that evening, I placed an order online and skipped the queue when I arrived — super convenient! Tried their herb crumbed mackerel, and it was excellent: generous portion, not oily, and full of flavour. I usually avoid fish and chips because they’re too greasy or salty, but not here — they let you salt the chips yourself, which is a great touch. Impressed by both the food and the service. A hidden gem in Townsville!

My order: battered barramundi fish and chips as recommended by the staff! Their battered fish is light & crunchy! I do feel like the seasoning for the batter/fish could be a lil stronger (personal preference) YESSAHH, the fish is FRESHH! Their 🍟 💯 must BUY! Its not an ordinary boring chips that is sold at every fish&chips. Theirs taste like wedges, but in chip form! You’ll know what I mean when you try it. lol Yes, I appreciated the 🍋 ! Btw, there was no stinky oil smell in the food which is a major NO for me. Will highly recommend locals & tourists👍🏾

Fresh caught mackerel in a housemade crumb, dont let the dark colour of the crumb fool you this fish is perfectly cooked and taste so fresh & juicy, add in some seafood sticks, a scallop with the roe on as its meant to be. Finished the meal with pineapple and banna fritters sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and a chocolate dipping sauce. Service was A+ with the prices very reasonable and got our food quickly then sat down and enjoyed the outdoor eating area.

I took the family down the beach today for fathers day fish and chips. After walking from the beach and having to wait an extra 20m for my order I got back to the beach and found they conveniently forgot to put the fish in our order. We normally share a peice of fish and share the chips so it was not just me that was disapointed but also my wife when all we had was chips to eat. I rang to and asked for a refund and was first told I could only be offered store credit lol. Nicely I asked I would prefer a refund they said ok. I did not get any sort of appology I felt like I was inconveniencing them for calling and asking about them forgetting one of the main parts of a fish and chips order. Anyway so I went and got my refund I was hoping they would try to say sorry and offer something to try and bring me back but all they did was refund me the exact price of the peice of fish and still I didnt even get an appology. They also had to give me cash because there was a queue and they did not want to make anyone wait in the queue while they used the eftpos machine to credit me back.

I am sure their food is good but what makes a good place brilliant is when mistakes happen they still keep the customer happy this place does not do this.

Suggestion for the owner if they read this. Take customers phone numbers so when you do find that part of a customers order you can go oh who just picked up and is missing their peice of fish and call them straight away so they can come back. secondly when you do make a mistake refund their entire order or say hey next time you order form here I will throw in a free peice of fish and I will come back.

Wont be...

The prawns tasted really fresh, you know that feeling when the shell peels right off the skin and the prawn is delicately firm, then you dip that bad boy in some lemon/vinegar and get that juicy zesty tang with that lovely flavor of the sea. I ordered their oysters as well and while I highly enjoy oysters, they would benefit from being cleaned a bit better. That oysters were a good size and they tasted like if an oyster swam in butter and puffed up just right to be juicy enough to chew on but slimy enough to slurp off the shell. It's a big texture immersion break when I bite a piece of the shell but that's part of oyster dining so I'll give it 4 stars.

Staff were nice but there's not much else staff can be when we're the only people to serve anyway but yeah 5 stars. The tables were a little bit stickyicky from the last guests but it's not big deal really I...

Renae and her staff are simply the best,a lot of love goes into the food, and the only way the food could get any fresher is if it came staight of the boat (which im sure it does, its that good) the calamari is my favourite nothing like ive seen or tasted before,it is a must when ordering, and as for the best fish and chip shop in f.n.q .... I would have to say the whole of q.l.d, being a chef and also being fussy with what i eat even as a kid lol, i have sampled quite a few fish shops in qld and this by far is the best, and i have to say over the 15 odd years plenty of people have tryed with this prime spot to give it a good go off things,a few different names, styles ect, but only one name has now has finally got it right and thats TOBINS...
