Bensons Cafe — Restaurant in Orange

We visited on Sunday morning for coffee and food. Everything was fine until I found a big piece of dirt in my mouth while eating Eggs Benedict with mushrooms. There was also another large chunk of dirt on the plate. This was serious because eating dirt from mushrooms can cause health issues, especially if they aren’t cleaned properly.

We told a staff member, and they apologized, saying it wouldn’t happen again. However, we don’t plan to return after this experience.

I understand that living costs in Australia are high, so they didn’t offer any discount. But in my opinion, this situation should have been handled more professionally, maybe with a gesture like a discount or offering to remake the meal. (I would have declined anyway since I had already eaten most of it by the time I found the dirt, but the offer would have been appreciated. I almost threw up when I realized I had a chunk of soil in my mouth and on my plate.)

Cleanliness is crucial, especially in food service, and I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously to prevent similar issues...

The Benson's that has been reviewed previously getting all 4-5 stars is gone....Bensons is UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP...all of the awesome attentive smiling friendly staff that regulars enjoyed seeing and having a chat with are gone....

In trying to attend the cafe recently noticing changes I did try and still give it a go however after 15 minutes waiting no one came to provide a menu. In going in to get a menu it was handed no apologies and it was dirty and sticky...not a good sign. Again waiting waiting no one came to take an order so I left.....is it still table service?? If it isn't you should probably have that displayed.

I therefore can't review the current food or coffee but in reading the last couple of reviews I think it was probably a good thing I left.

I'll note also the waitress I did see was wiping down all tables with the same cloth no spray and didn't appear to care at all, not to mention not even acknowledging customers....worries you how they clean out back....

We visited this morning and found the service to be quite unorganized. Our drinks were brought out over a span of 40 minutes, and the food took over an hour to arrive. Unfortunately, the avocado was very unripe and inedible, therefore unenjoyable. When we asked for a replacement, the staff admitted it was unripe but still charged us for the avocado smash dish, which we felt was disappointing. Additionally, one of our drinks was double-charged, though this was corrected after we pointed it out. I’d like to believe this was an unusual situation, as I can’t imagine a café thriving if our experience was typical. However, as we were just passing through, we won’t have the opportunity to visit again and see if it was...
