We got guac and corn chips to share. They were DELICIOUS. The corn chips were warm and beautifully seasoned, while also being crispy on the outside, and softer on the inside. I have never had corn chips like this but oh my gosh they were AMAZING! My fish tacos were heaven. The fish was soft and tender and melted in my mouth. The spicy green chili aoili/mayo was also beautiful. Was the best taco I have ever had. The haloumi tacos were also delicious. Not too salty, paired with a delicious mango sauce. It was perfect. We got the dessert where you tried all 3. The servings were very generous. The churros melted in our mouths and were absolutely delicious with the dulche de leche. The mouse with cake was also delicious and soft, and quite rich. The cheesecake however didn't have too much flavour to it. We could tell it had been frozen as the centre was a nit icey still. The margaritas were INSANE. Not too strong, while there being enough alcohol to be worth the money. It was the best margarita I have ever had! All the staff were extremely friendly and very accommodating. The restaurant is absolutely amazing. Would 100% go back here in a heartbeat. Be sure to book as we heard them having to tell people they were fully booked for the night - which is not surprising.

"I had an absolutely outstanding dining experience at The Mexican restaurant in Port Douglas. The level of service and attention they provided was truly exceptional. What really impressed me was their genuine understanding and accommodation of my food intolerances. As soon as I mentioned my dietary restrictions, they were quick to provide me with a customized menu that catered to my needs. The food itself was a delightful explosion of flavors. Despite the adjustments made to accommodate my intolerances, every dish I tried was incredibly tasty and satisfying. It's evident that the chefs at The Mexican are not only skilled but also committed to ensuring that every guest enjoys a memorable meal. The staff's warmth and attentiveness further enhanced the overall experience. They were not only knowledgeable about the menu but also eager to ensure that I had a fantastic time. The restaurant's commitment to both exceptional service and catering to food intolerances truly sets them apart. My visit to The Mexican was beyond my expectations, and I'm thrilled to award them a well-deserved 5-star rating. If you're seeking a restaurant in Port Douglas that excels in both culinary expertise and customer care, The Mexican is a must-visit."

Firstly at the bottom of this review I have left my previous review of The Mexican Port Douglas.

Update.⭐️ Adios The Mexican. "Essentially a taqueria now"... I recently visited this venue for the 3rd time in about 8 months and so much has changed. The ordering system, the menu and the overall style of service. More under each tab below.

Food. Bordering on inedible. For this visit we ordered Nachos, Tuna Civiche plus multiple Tacos. While the food was well presented but very few items actually hit the mark. Nachos where tasty but poorly put togehter with very little protien (not suitable for sharing). The Tuna was so overpowered by capers and store bought cocktail onions there was no room for the C-D grade Tuna (maybe a good thing) . Don't get me started on the tacos... Bland. For a restaurant now claiming to be a taqueria (specialising in small $9.00+ tacos) I would be nervous as the business owner.

Service. Not the staff fault, however... I was extremely shocked at the new ordering system. Essentially no service provided, all on QR code and pay as you go. Now to cut this short if you have dietary requirements or generally alter your food. DO NOT EAT HERE. The smallest change to food or even your cocktail is not possible. To many issues to even begin to explain. Extremely disconnected, disappointed is an understatement.

Atmosphere. Essentially roadside seating with no music or table setting to create an indulgent space. Lack luster service and a complicated ordering system mentioned drove the "feel" of the restaurant below par. Unfortunately in recent times McDonalds has offered better in-restaurant experiences.

Ultimately no longer worth the money paid. Would often recommend for others to eat here. No more. Adios The Mexican.

Previous review. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Phenomenal food. Should have taken pictures but was so excited for a delicious plate of Mexican I forgot.

The Tuna Tostaditas - Raw Yellowfin + Avocado + Repollo + Cayenne. These bad boys have quite the kick (not for the faint hearted) and flavour to die for.

Nachos (Vego) - Gangsta Sauce + All the Good Stuff + Choice of Protein. My God THESE ARE AMAZING. Add some extra Queso for that indulgent cheese fix.

Fajitas - Sizzling Veggies + Warm Corn Tortillas + Fixins + Choice of Protein. Not for everyone but a good meal regardless. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars...

Food is tasty and well presented, no complaints there, but small portions and humorously overpriced.

My 8 yo ordered chicken wings. At $24 we thought it would be enough to feed him. Unfortunately he only received 6 tiny wings. Grossly overpriced 😂😂😂. Highway robbery… no wonder you don’t put the number of wings per serve on the menu, and to add insult to injury, we had to wait 45 minutes before they came out, so he watched the rest of the family eat before his food arrived.

WRT pricing: The waiter recommended we opt for the set menu at $55 per person. We were advised that the whole table had to order it (sans youngest child), it was the best value for money and it would be enough to feed everyone with some to spare. Two adults, three kids and we left hungry after spending $310 (we did order two margaritas though and three soft drinks).

Avoid if you’re feeding a family. The menu and recommendations from the waiter were designed to ensure you order the set menu. I’ve no issue paying fair price for a good feed, but this was way overpriced for what was served and the meal sizes were exceedingly small and disproportionate to the cost of the food.

Cue a generic response from the restaurant regarding the quality of the food, value for money and, perhaps, other options that might have been cost effective. If you check the latest menu online I think you will find this is not the case.

Aside from the 15yo, we’re not massive eaters and we had to pop by for some fries at a pub close by after. 😂

I’ve read a number of other reviews for The Mexican - Port Douglas and there appears to be an “overpriced” theme amongst the reviews. If qualityquantity is the restaurant’s mantra, I suggest it be reviewed. There’s an imbalance that needs to be corrected. The way it should be is:

Price =...

I’ve thought long and hard about this review in light of the stellar reviews on Google proclaiming The Mexican as “the best Mexican in Australia”, and honestly I’m not 100% sure that I haven’t “missed it” or that I just don’t “get it” because my experience is simply so different to the others here.

Look, I’ll be straight up with my opinion, the The Mexican is actually some of the worst Mexican food I have ever ordered. The entrée we ordered the chips and guacamole, were fine, the guacamole wasn’t the best I’ve ever had though it definitely wasn’t the worst, and personally I prefer a harder chip, but it was all passable. The chicken burrito and the chicken Fajitas however were definitely not passable.

I personally ordered the burrito, because I love their carb’y goodness, but in this case the burrito on offer was a carb’y tasteless gelatinous mess. If I had not read that there was guacamole and pico de gallo in it, I wouldn’t have known. In fact I knew they were there and I still couldn’t appreciate them. The chicken? Tasteless. I genuinely wonder if they seasoned cause I couldn’t taste it. The cheese? Why oh why was it provided as a “Gangsta” sauce. The only thing Gangsta about it was that cheese sauce should also be illegal. It’s frankly horrible.

I won’t be commenting on the fajitas because I only had a few bites of my partners, but I honestly couldn’t care to review it with how deflated I was after trying the “best Mexican in Australia”.

So if you’ve made it this far, you must be wondering why 2 and not 1 star? Well, the service was pretty good. Seriously,...
