I do not like leaving negative reviews, and avoid doing so, unless we're especially disappointed.
So we'll start with the positives. The friendly service, location and atmosphere, are all great.
The following is directed at management.
Instead of just piling on criticism, I'll also outline the fundamental changes required to turn this around.
I'll preface everything by stating that you cannot charge the "tourist tax" without meeting a bare minimum in quality and portion size. The $25 American burger does neither.
Most "top burger" lists are populated by burgers cooked "medium". Absent from these lists, without exception, are burgers with patties cooked "well done" (I would question the validity of, or simply ignore, any list that included them).
Increase the patty thickness (and thus, its weight) by 30 - 40%. A burger having the quality expected from a pop-up theme park stall cannot be smaller, as well as more expensive. This is an instant win, and yes, you'll make less margin, but should make it up with higher sales.
Find a better cheese. Coles brand is cheap for a reason.
Come up with your own burger sauce. I like mustard on American style hot-dogs. However, most American's don't have mustard on their burgers for a reason. Don't drown it when you figure this out.
If you make any of these changes, find real world people to review the result. You should then advertise that it's a new take on the American style burger, "now bigger and tastier". Ignore anyone who suggests it was the wrong direction. Every "best burger" list in existence verifies that the suggestions being made are objectively the right thing to do.
Kids burgers and sliders are NOT the same thing. You must advertise that these are sliders, or make the kids burger larger. This is particularly unacceptable, given that the $25 burger, less the bacon, is roughly the size of most kids meals.
I hate feeling like I could negatively impact an Aussie business, especially in today's tough times. However, the quality felt so cheap that I would have been just as disappointed, and felt just as ripped off, had it been $15.
Therefore, I must conclude that this wasn't an accident, which is sad.
You need to hard-reset the burger situation. A $25 burger must be genuinely good, no...

Read moreWent to the Beach House cafe one morning for breakfast. I ordered a $15 Bacon and Egg roll to get something that looks like pork ribs with a bun. But no, that is the bacon. I realized this after a few bites of disgusting, charcoal bacon. It was if they had the bacon sitting there on the stove since they opened, waiting for someone to order bacon. I took it back and they replied with a quiet "Yeah, that's pretty bad. We'll get you a new one." They finally bring out a new bacon and egg roll, minutes later for it to turn out to be the same bacon and egg roll, they had just opened my roll, took the bacon off, and put it back together, the bacon was still mostly burnt. My family had also ordered 'Eggs and Toast' with bacon. The toast on all 3 of them was just like bread, and was very doughy and hard to cut. The bacon was also burnt and under cooked. Most of the eggs came out runny and dry.
The staff were also very rude. We came along to a table that has been sitting there for a while as we were standing outside the place. We sit down and the person comes over and tells us that she was just going to wipe the table quickly. She took 3 wipes off half the table and said that she couldn't get the other half. While we were still eating, a waitress came over and starting refilling the utensil box without saying excuse me. She just reached right over my head with her tray of knives and forks and starting placing them right in front of me. She came back later to take our plates away and did not say a word. I will not be coming back here ever again.
If you are looking for a nicer cafe in town, I would recommend Four Espresso, the food is amazing, the staff are nice and it is always clean. There menu is also much larger than The Beach House's menu with less than 10 items and...
