Good steak, poor service Very unusual experience but reading some of the other reviews ( I now get it) Ordered two 250g eye fillets, plus food for kids, positives first, food and drinks arrived quickly, as we were first there at 5pm. Steaks were both slightly over the requested medium and medium well...but quality was really good meat! What went down hill rapidly was service, when they delivered both steaks, I mentioned to the waiter sorry one is half the size ( obviously the same depth, and width but half the length when placed beside each other)the waiter said "no it's not" he said it's half size but same weight and left... So slightly annoyed I took pics as I always like to review, started eating as we had kids and it had started raining ..so didn't need drama, of arguing with waiter who wasn't interested. Steak was really tasty, so wouldn't have mentioned it again unless asked... Second waiter came up said how's your meal, I said very nice but steak half the size, so maybe you need to check cuts going forward and showed him two steaks images and held remaining steaks beside each other to show same depth...he said does appear that way. He got manageress ( we didn't request manageress, maybe same one that told other reviewers they were wrong as she came in hot) who told me I was wrong they weight the steaks and every one is exactly same size .. that even though they were same depth, width one was flatter than other) I said sorry the photo doesn't lie ask your waiters , she then spent 20 minutes rejecting photos and saying i was wrong, am I calling her a lyer and getting defensive, I said sorry I'm not complaining your staff asked me I said the reality which is one was half size and now you are ruining my remaining dinner telling me I'm wrong, when I didn't request this escalation... Needless to say I was served a steak half the size of other and manageress just came over to tell me I was wrong several times even at paying at end she said sorry about your experience but you are wrong...at no time did I want any compensation or ask for it, but she treated me like I was an idiot for 20 mins ruining dinner hence rating for service .. Owner, If you don't want feedback don't ask for it, if you do ask for it don't chastise the customer for giving it...especially if customer is saying I'm not complaining just want to eat my meal. A few others have commented on a manageress who's first reaction seems to be customer is always wrong...interesting service...good food but Cairns has soo much more good food with good service...
Read moreOur short stay in Cairns, we walked pass on Saturday and it was fully booked. So we made sure that we book for Sunday night. Sunday night was also fully booked as I saw one couple was turned away. So my expectations were quite high.
Entrée was very underwhelming, all three that we ordered. You can see prawn salad was looking a bit sad. Both salad was not very fresh and not well dressed either, a bit bland. The lamb cutlet, we got one lamb first and we were discussing, why we only have one because it seems to be too little even though it's an entree. Not long after, anothe piece of lamb cutlet followed in a separate bowl. Not sure if the chef forgot it or for some reasons.
We had ribs for main. I found that the sauce was a little too sweet although it was ok. So far, I'm not impressed. The place is well decorated though and staff was friendly.
The things that made our night a bit better was Hoegaarden beer (my partner's favorite) and we couldn't find it anywhere since Covid in the state we're from. And top it off with sticky date pudding 🍮 it was yummy and we liked it very much. Hence, 3 stars from our experience.
✅️👍To answer the owner, the reason we didn't raise any concern because it wasn't that bad regarding food as I expessed that it was okay for me with the taste of food. However, we did leave salad leaves on both plates. We just didn't say anything.
The waitress forgot our drinks twice and we were totally fine with it, even made a joke and laughed with her. It's human error like you said. I worked in a restaurant before and I can understand why you would like us to raise the issue then. Sometimes when people give feedback, it was taken the wrong way as well and we might be looked at like we're complaining to get something out of it. Read moreUnfortunately not the very best experience. As a booking for 2, seated next to a large and noisy table of 10, we did not have the best night. Before even ordering drinks we asked if we could move, the waiter went away to check and came back to say no other tables were available. There were other tables for 2, reserved, like our was that we could have moved to, but unfortunately that was not possible apparently. The prawn tacos were listed as a soft taco shell. Two of my tacos were soft shells the third was brittle and dry, either stale or over heated and dried out. My wife enjoyed her steak, which was pleasing. But it was a short dinner due to the noise. The restaurant has concrete walls with zero furnishings on the wall to absorb sound. It’s akin to being in a concrete shed. Noise bounces around with nothing to absorb or soften the ambience. It’s a shame, could be a good restaurant but seems inflexible and not understanding of customers. The waiter obviously realised there was a high level of noise, as he bent over fully to place his head about 30 cm from ours to take our orders. When paying we made comment about not being able to change tables and the noise level, the lady taking payment stated that we should have asked her as she would have changed out seating arrangements.
