Tried this restaurant which j had heard great things about on a trip through cairns. I was seated at 6, but they told me that they would need the table I was at by 715. When I asked if I could move tables at the time they said they weren't sure.

Sat down anyways. There's a gorgeous view of the water and a very interesting menu. I had 3 different dishes and drinks. Had the alligator and prawn, the game meat platter and kangaroo steak. The prawn platter was quite delicious if a but heavily fried and battered for my taste and a hit overly salted but still good. The game meat platter was great! Would highly recommend it. The smoked salmon wirh green ants was phenomenonal. The kangaroo steak left a little to be desired as it was soft but a bit bland for me which was unusual as I've had kangaroo before and truly enjoyed it.

Food was all in all quite good. 4/5.

The service however was abysmal. From when I started the waitress told me it was her first day and she was just a trainee. Understandable. She said my server would be along. I ordered a drink and asked for the wifi password and they said they'd get it. 20 mins later my drink came and no wifi. There was only 3 tables seated at this time. Between then and when I finished my meal I saw the waitress only when she brought out the food. I ordered a refill of my drink about four times from other servers since mine never came back, however in the 2 hours I didn't get a refill. I wanted to order dessert before leaving but after waiting about 30 minutes I got full and decided to call it a night. Realizing that my seating time had passed I was thankful they hadn't asked me to move but getting the bill and paying took another 20 mins and eventually I had to stand up and call a waitress over. All in all a pretty poor experience. Food was good but at those prices I'd expect to see my server at least once during the meal and hopefully at least a...

Surprised this place has such high ratings, it was very average/below in my experience. I don't mind paying for a good meal, so basing this review purely on food/experience.

Attached some pictures but I want to say it looks way better than it tastes. If you want bright, fresh, bold flavor, I wouldn't recommend this place.

We got the antipasto main, the game platter, the pork belly and scallops, the soup of the day (leek) and the deconstructed banoffee pie.

The appetizers were the best part. However everything else was pretty...average. Not bad, just not special. The pork belly and scallops were quite yummy, well cooked and seasoned. The soup was really lacking in basic salt. The crocodile and picked veggies (basically just vinegar cabbage) were boring and a bit greasy. Well cooked wallaby and kangaroo, but lacking seasoning and the sauce was overly sweet. The potatoes that came with the game platter we're good.

The dessert was okay but the berries and toppings were inedibly chewy and hard. We had 2 bites and stopped because it was all chunked in our teeth.

Service was okay. The waitress was polite, but not particularly friendly. Two other people checked in on us, one asked if I'd like to refill my wine. I said yes, but never got it. I don't mind the longer waiting times for checkins, especially because the waitress had to bus her own tables (they needed another person helping her out), but I think she could have been friendlier.

It ran $170 pre tip, which is a fine price point for the food and atmosphere this place promises, but it fell short of execution. If you're not used to truly good food this place might seem special, but I live in a food mecca, so definitely expect more when traveling and going out on...

A must visit. The highest quality meet skills. Seafood are the freshest, Rib-eye is the best. The skill of the chef who designed the dishes and those who cooked are very high. Every single item on every plates has a purpose and it was amazing. Thanks Chef. Please be careful with scallops on the seafood platter, outside were almost dry. Sorry.. I'm very fussy but very appreciative. The mussels were awesome, sashimi were awesome, bugs were awesome. Everything was awesome. I'll be back. ------------++ 10th of June, 2023.

This is my second visit all the way from Sydney and my expectation were high as per my previous experience. I tried to walk in without booking on 09/06 but it was full. So I booked a table for 3 people on 10th. Here are my verdicts...

Either there is a new head chef or different suppliers for the ingredients. Everything we tasted were average. Please do not get me wrong, the food aren't terrible but not as good compare to what I've experienced in my previous visit on the early 2023. Everything on each dishes were out of balance, either too spicy, too acidic or irrelevant. The steak was overcooked for my order of medium rare which I had to send it back first time in my life and I'm 51yr old. I received the replacement after some waiting but I couldn't finish even half of the rib eye. The texture and flavour wasn't there as it used to.

I have high expectations on this second visit...

If you are in Cairns and coming back from one of the many reef/island day trips at the marina, then do yourself a favour and have a meal at Ochre on the wharf there. The staff were professional, polite, and friendly. And the food? OMG! Every dish we had was an amazing culinary sensation of local and native produce. And good portions! The bruschetta with rocket macadamia pesto was so good that we ordered a second helping. The secret spiced calamari was tender and tasty. The tempura battered wild barramundi was juicy and fresh. And the pork belly was delicious and tender also (and I'm fussy about pork belly, having spent years perfecting the perfect crispy roast pork belly at home). Clearly, the chef knows how to select the best produce because the salmon sashimi with ponzu, wakame, wasabi, and karkalia was the best salmon I've ever had Then we had desserts, and our tastebuds were sent to Nirvana again with the spiced mango tart and the passionfruit and sunrise lime bavarois. Even the coffee was made with care and tasted as good as a Melbourne coffee. Their menu is seasonal so what I've mentioned here may not be available when you go, (we were there in December 2024), but rest assured, the cuisine is a treat your tastebuds will thank you for. As will your wallet because the prices were very good as well. (Apologies for not taking a photo of the deserts until AFTER we'd dug into to them.😆)
