Sea Breeze Cafe Hervey Bay — Restaurant in Queensland

My sister and I decided to take a break from exam season by heading down the Esplanade, with Sea Breeze Cafe at the top of our list. We grabbed our study materials and made our way over, hoping to enjoy some good food and a productive study session.

Food Quality: The food looked amazing on the review site, and when it arrived, it did not disappoint. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and presented beautifully, just as we had hoped.

Service: The service was lovely! Our drinks arrived alongside our food, which was timed perfectly. The staff were attentive and friendly, enhancing our overall experience.

Ambiance: The ambiance was pleasant, quiet, and conducive to studying. The cafe featured some nice greenery, but nothing too unique or extraordinary in terms of decor.

Cleanliness: While the overall environment was clean, the menus were a bit of a letdown, showing signs of wear with food stains and a bit of grime.

Value for Money: The prices were on the higher side, but given the generous portion sizes, I felt it was justified. The quality and quantity of the food made it worth the cost.

Overall Experience: We initially chose Sea Breeze Cafe as a place to study, drawn by their advertised free Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, despite multiple signs and the website claiming to offer Wi-Fi, when we inquired, we were told there was no Wi-Fi available. This was a significant letdown for us, as we were counting on it for our study session. As we left, we ordered some take away drinks of a Tropical smoothie and Protein shake. I went here with my boyfriend and it had a lovely atmosphere and staff were overall nice and welcoming. Although, once seated we waited 15-20 minutes before we got served and in the time we had been sitting for 10 minutes another couple sat down and got their order taken within minutes, and got their food before we even had our drinks. We also had no glasses for table water on our table but watched as one of the servers was setting up another table and placed glasses on it. We also had no napkins and had to ask for them. We came at 9am at first with a booking but found out we couldn't order from the lunch menu which we assumed was an all day menu since it doesn't say anything otherwise but then were told we could only order from that menu from 11am. Why place the menu on the table if you can't order from it? There should be something on the menu saying lunch is only from 11am. We decided to come back at 11am which we did in the same day. We both ordered the Bao Buns and they were okay, not the best we've had but they were still good. Food was overall a 4/5 but table service needs...

Thought we'd be safe here, due to their rating (4.6), but that was a mistake! Service was slow and impersonal... All of the staff were extremely unmotivated with no service skills whatsoever, with the exception of the barista (likely in charge as she was the only one to try and keep things moving). These girls didn't care for customers at all. The two kitchen staff really were no better... Food production was painfully slow, and they could not co-ordinate meals from the same table together!! I received my meal, and was finished before my wife even saw hers. Timing was terrible, and we asked for a refund for that meal. It was a shocking display of poor management, poor staffing and extreme apathy. The coffee was good, and the food I did get to eat was okay, nothing to brag about. It was similar to something you'd make at home, which begs the question of why you'd come to a cafe to pay for it?
